Good information and I will keep watching. I will be hunting alone this year, but being the chicken that I am, I only put my stand up 9 feet... maybe next time I will go higher, but for this year, I want to build confidence...

Man I am glad I hunt from a box blind. I thought you could just hang there until you got help. Sounds like a harness can be just as fatal as a fall if not prepared.

I still know several guys that wont wear them. Crazyness. When I hunted up north, most people didnt wear them.

I hunt really high. Im getting older and less nimble so I really take my time getting in and out, and always stay tethered. I set mine up if I drop, Im only dropping about 5 inches below the base of my stand. I also use one extra climbing stick, on the backside of the tree to hang my stuff and to use as a way to help pull myself up should I fall.

And if you left stands or tree steps strapped up over the summer, change your straps out.

Confidence will come in time. After a few hunts you will be going higher and higher. Or Climb in the dark so you don't realize how high you really are!

It's not like you tie off to the lowest point have have a six foot fall and dangle there!?!
I would think this would be the ideal way. Keep it short enought just to stand up and draw and sit back down.

I put my tree strap on so it is just loose when your sitting. Most I'm gunna fall if I'm standing is around 2 ft. Also keep phone in front pouch. Unless I fall when I'm bored and reading Facebook posts. Lol

Not the proper way to use the harness. 2ft is too far and may put you in a position you cannot recover.

Have a plan, make sure someone else knows that plan, keep the teather as tight as possible, keep your cell/radio/PLB on your person, use the suspension relief straps, three points of attachment, etc. I've also spent a good deal of time climbing poles/hanging wire and in bucket trucks. I'm not what one would consider a brave-bad guy-you don't want me as a partner in a fight, but scared of heights I'm not, hugged a few poles in my career (on purpose)- keep a knife handy- self rescue. Just don't pick a tree thats too big to hug. Self preservation.

Always let someone know where you are hunting. No matter how good the spot may be. Attach tether to tree not far up so fall (if it happens ) will be limited. Recovery should be easier. Know the area your stand platform has for you to operate. Keep tree stand upper and lower connected with rope. I currently use a HSS, but will be looking into the Spider Wire system. I work 87 feet in the air daily, and MUST wear a full body harness. One of the accessories we have to use is a object we call a Yo Yo. It is basically a fall arrester that limits your decent incase you fall. My harness also has the rippable stiching the video spoke of that will soften the fall. Stuff happens fast and as cat like the moves you think you have...It will never be fast enough to prevent a fall when it is happening. No second chances. Hunt safe...be safe.

If it's not set correctly yes. If it's used properly and you hv a step relief no. Too many just throw it on and take off.

Most people start a thread, apologizing for any confusion and explaining the situation when something like this happens. You may not want to, but there are 20,000 folks on here and I bet a few may not know you guys got it worked out. If you did. Just a thought..not slamming you.
