I've got my suspension relief strap but I carry my phone in one of the front pouches on the safety vest and I bought a small, flat whistle from walmart to put in the other pouch. I figure worst case if I drop my phone trying to get it out I can blow that friggin whistle and hope someone hears it.

Wouldn't the point of where you connect your harness to be say a ft above your head on the tree and given that you fall only let you drop to a possible sitting position but still be on the floor of the stand? It's not like you tie off to the lowest point have have a six foot fall and dangle there!?!

You would be surprised on what people think is a good place to tie off to. In all my years of tower climbing and utility work I have seen some crazy things folks tied off to thinking they were safe.

No just been through years of rectification pole climbing classes and I am ComTrain certified as rescue tower climber and almost went to work for them as a climbing instructor last yr but choose to get out of the climbing line of work after climbing towers and poles for 19yrs. I started climbing at 18 building towers then moved to Telephone climbing poles then back to cell towers. Man I feel old now that I read that.

lol man I know what you mean and if one of "the boys" is in the wrong place at wrong time not good at all! Iv seen guys in class get one caught in a fall and you can tell from the look on their face what just happened.

Capital Safety or DBI Sala, has block with RSQ dual mode. The automatic descent feature will stop the fall, then slowly lower you to the ground. They also have the Suspension trauma safety straps that hook to waist belt and drop down for your feet to step into

The thing I worry about is that my harness tether has some stretch to it. It's not stretchy enough that I can stretch it by hand, but it's supposed to cushions fall. That's all fine and good, and I attach it as high as I can and still be able to sit down, but I don't know how far it will stretch. Might hang me just low enough that I can't reach the stand....but on the other hand, it might hang me just high enough that I can reach it, and give enough lift assist to allow me to do a pillion back into the stand.

                          harness

I bought a climbing harness from REI last year and will never go back to a full body harness. Much more comfortable and I personally feel safer since I typically hunt alone.. If you fall out of your tree, you shouldn't fall far if you have it set up properly.
If you watch some mountain climbing videos, you will see they take some crazy falls. There are some discussions on climbing harnesses vs hunting harness where actual mountain climbers chime in (I won't name the website here.)

Climbing harnesses are made for people that will definitely fall time and time again. Full body "hunting" harnesses are made just incase you fall.

                            rescue

so to answer your question, I would reach over to my climbing sticks and crawl back in my stand. Might be shaking a bit.

If y'all guys wouldn't fall asleep while hunting you wouldn't fall out of your stand.

It's happened, and i simply climbed back in stand. It wasnt a far drop because of where I was tethered. And I always set up steps to where I can get to them.
