162 at last physical. Red wine in moderation helped mine. Or you could drink grape juice.

Statin's are a double edge sword. Helps lower your LDL "bad cholesterol" and rob your joints of qunol and make you feel like somebody has beat the hell out of you with a baseball bat in the mornings.

I could go on and on here about cholesterol since I have researched it heavily the last four years. But, Google and health blogs are your friend on this matter.

By the way my bad choletsterol used to be 140 and is now below 80. Anything below 100 is good. My right artery was also found to be blocked 100% and is now clear due to a stint, diet, and lots of cardio.

Most cholesterol is due to hereditary. Bad diets only add to the problem.

Couple of years ago my total cholesterol was 249 with the bad (LDL) cholesterol at 176. A heart attack earlier this year, followed by a big lifestyle change and 30lbs lost, my total cholesterol is 111 with the bad being 55 now. I do take a 40mg dose of Lipitor each day. At some point I'll talk to my cardiologist about giving it a go without the cholesterol med, but I'd like to get a little farther down the road from the heart attack before I start experimenting.

Total cholesterol should be below 200. Triglycerides below 200 but preferably below 150. HDL should be above 40. LDL should be below 100. These numbers are indicated if you have risk factors for heart disease. If you have no other medical problems then you can get by with slightly higher LDL values.

no, it's primarily caused by a diet high in carbs.......

the cholesterol issue as we know it is a myth.

My triglycerides were so high they couldn't put a number on them. Got them down to around 500 with meds and diet. Quit drinking, as hard as that was, and got them just under 200. Total cholesterol is still well above 200 but the lowest it's been in years. Yes, it is hereditary.

210 here. I take pravastatin to keep it under control. I really need to eat better.

basically, yes. i think we all have been duped into believing it's the result of eating fat, especially saturated animal fat.

on a related topic, research Glycation.
