I always thought slash was one of the best solo performers but then I heard EVH's solo on Micahel Jacksons "Beat it" One of my all time favorite solos. Interesting story behind that solo goes something like this....

Van Halen was practicing or recording in their studio and while they broke for lunch, EVH secretely snuck over to where Michael Jackson was recording and he wrote and performed the enitre solo while on his "Lunch Break"

I'd add Allen Collins and Nils Lofgren to this list.

when PBS did their American Masters piece on Les Paul. Les was showing some of the guitars in his collection and he had two of Django Reinhadt's

At the end of his song LUCIA - listen to his fingers work the close at SPEED! UNBELIEVABLE MELODIES!

Oscar Lopez playing Lucia - SWEET WORK!

As the song closes...his supporting band start to clap and cheer as he tears the STRINGS UP! AMAZING WORK!

                                all the greats are "pickers"
they don't play a flat pick and strum chords
