Based on the way things are going these days i'm inclined to agree.

I'm glad the OP met a "great officer" and posted up. Tired of hearing about all the bad.
I agree 100 percent. They ask for ID Then I will give it to them along with DL and proof of insurance or if they ask if I have any weapons in the car. I never volunteer information it can and will be used against u.

I got respect for LEO's and I know it isn't an easy job and one that I am sure drains you in many ways but by your description I would say you are an officer I wouldn't want to run into by the way you describe people.

Funny Trooper Story....I got pulled over for speeding coming back from San Antonio one day. I was right outside of Seguin. I was barely speeding but just figured he was doing his job. He came up to my window and asked me to get out. I did and handed him my CHL as soon as I got to the back of the truck. He said, "I don't need that. The reason I pulled you over is that I noticed you had jacked your truck up and put these big tires and wheels on there....they look new." I was confused and replied, "Yes sir, I got them last week. Is there a problem with them?" He said, kinda nervously, "Oh no. I was just wondering if you still had your factory tires and wheels and if I could buy them from you." I did and we agreed on a price right there on the side of I-10. I had a crew headed through there the next day and they delivered his tires and wheels and he mailed me a check for the correct amount. I can't recall his name and not sure I'd say it if I did, but he was a super nice guy. He got a good deal and I got rid of some tires and wheels pretty easily. Most DPS I've dealt with were good dudes.

So Daniel, would that be showing favoritism to CHL holders

I'm not gonna bite. I did kind of misread Mans statement though. I think he meant if we see or know the trooper that WE should thank him. He wanted to know why. From that point on my reasoning stays the same. And it's been a really good day. You would enjoy meeting me unless you're a dirtbag criminal, which I doubt. I am more of a lurker than poster, so it kinda surprised me that I hit it so fast, but believe me I've been there way too many times. And, I'm retired, so no worries Texas TLK237, gray f 150.

How would you like to be looking down the barrel of the officers weapon when you fail to tell him you have a CHL and u reach in the glove box for insurance and he sees the pistol. If you leave with a butt chewing only if is a good day for you. It boils down to being respectful to another human being that has to deal with the dredges of the world and when they are lucky they get to meet the few good people of the world and they get to BS and smile. LEO only care that u have a weapon so all are safe good people go on the others well the judges decided that.

In CHL class they said I didn't have to show my CHL unless I was carrying. However, when stopped for speeding, I gave her my DL and when she ran it she saw I had a CHL and came back and asked if I was carrying. I repeated what I was told in class and she replied that when it comes up when they run your DL they are going to ask about it. She did let me off with a warning after I showed it to her. This was in Friendswood.

A LEO told me "Never" put any paperwork an officer might need to see in your glove box for this very reason. Always put your paperwork on the sun visor. Anybody stupid enough to open a glove box with a gun in it during a trafic stop needs to be shot. Its all about personal preference. You feel you need to fully disclose everything even if not asked and I don't.

I had a officer stop me a few years back for a brake light that was out and he asked me if I had any weapons. I told him yes I did. He asked what do you have. I told him 3 rifles, 2 pistols and 2 pocket knives. He asked me if I was a hunter and I said yes sir and that I was on my way home from the range. He handed my license back and said have a great day and good luck this season. He asked a question and I told him the truth and there was no issue.

I got no idea. Maybe theyre deputies? All i know is they are on 10 after the game ranch and before beaumont near the crawfish farms. I see them there with people pulled over all the time! Dark gray tahoes and really cool light bars all over, inconspicuously.
