I read this entire thread. I used to have netflix thru my bluray player but cancelled it a few years back. I called charter today to see if they could lower my bill from $158 a month for expanded basic. I was told that my annual locked in price was about to expire. Luckily I called or my next bill would have been $240+. I said well what can we do to get the bill down? He said well lets see what the new price for what you have is going to be. He comes back with $177 a month. I said What channels can I drop? Showtime and the movie channel. Yeah that helped. That brought it down to $171 a month. I guess i should include that I have their internet too.
So I started researching everything you guys have posted. I already signed up for huluplus($7.99 a month) and amazonprime ($79 a year).

My first question is if I have these two and add netflix does the roku offer more than these three? Would it be necessary to have the roku as well? Or should I forget the netflix since amazon prime pretty much covers netflix? I am researching hd antennas as well.

My second question is will roku3 plug into any tv? I have a samsung dlp that requires a sumsung wifi usb thangy to plug into the tv. No other brand will work. It cost around $100.

Do you get Ion, MeTV or WGN?

We haven't had real cable or satellite in years. I sometimes miss ESPN, History, A&E and Discovery but we've really enjoyed ION, MeTV, local and other digital channels that we do get with our basic cable package - $25/mo. We were wasting so much time because there was always something on that I wanted to watch. If it wasn't sports, it was choppers, Duck Dynasty or some home improvement show.

Way to cut the cord! We dropped our cable a few years ago and have not missed it at all. Most shows we watch can be streamed off the broadcasters sites or can easily be found found for download. We also have a regular antenna for local channels.
We have found that we don't watch nearly as much TV as we used to, leaving more family time and hobby time
Only thing we really miss is being able to watch the Arkansas Razorback games. But they have kind of sucked the past few years so we are not missing to much lol.
