The funny part is that JP still has Time Warner....to get his stream TV. can't do that with Dish. LOL.
I live where you can only get satellite. In 7 years and I've only had rain knock out the signal 3 times at most. With Dish I can put a "joey" receiver in each room of the house if I want to, use the iPad for Dish Anywhere, even buy a Dish "tailgater" for when I'm at a UT game or out camping.

You can also get Dish's internet. I will say it's not as good as time warner.

And to clarify a bit more. Yes, I still need and have high speed Internet, which I don't mind paying for. In the past year I have dropped 2 of the 3 services by Time Warner; Cable TV (in the title of the thread ) and their home phone serivce.

If you HAVE High Speed Internet now or can get it, this is a great way to go. If you live in an area that does not offer it (like Billy) you might have to wait until they dig those trenches and bring it.

I'm resurrecting this thread, and thinking of going this route.

Are you guys building HTPC's of just running the services off the smart tv/bluray players?

I've been wondering... is there a subtitles/closed captioning option for any of the shows on Roku?

But yes, the sports addiction is a problem.

I'm sure my friends would tire of me showing up for games.

I havent had cable for about a year and a half. At first it was because I was broke but honestly now I have no desire to get it back. I have an antenna and get about 15 channels. Its really all I need. 99% of the channels I paid for I never watched anyways so whats the point. There are a few shows, such as Duck Dynasty, that I enjoy but I catch up on them at my girlfriends house on demand.

Do they have FoodNetwork, Bravo and FX shows? I have a ruko and did Hulu plus for a couple of months. However, back to basic cable since I live in an apartment and couldn't get local channels with an antenna. If y'all have any other ideas on how to get local channels please let me know.

Cut crime warner two months ago. I now have Netflix and Amazon prime (not much overlap in shows and with prime you get expedited shipping on all purchases). I do still have internet through time Warner so until someone better comes along I have to keep them.

For regular tv I bought a $30 GE amplified hd antennae from target. Works great.
