Back to the topic... I just did this 11.5 mi hike/run through low elevation mountains and it was grueling. It basically goes over the peaks with very little side-hilling. I HATED it when I was up there, but will do it again on my visit a couple weeks from now. Basically, the only way I can motivate myself to keep working out and eating right is to have goals. My goal is to be in mountain shape, and its still an ongoing process. Right now I am focusing on building muscle mass, which for me is very difficult.

    Distance: 11.5 mi
Elevation: + 3000 ft gained and -3500 ft lost over total distance
    Duration: 5 hrs

If you look close, you can see the trail heads toward the taller ridge closer to the lake and then hits almost every peak from there. Ouch!
If you did that 11.5 mile hike/run with a pack on, then you are READY right now. My hike this weekend was about 8 miles up and down about 1,000 feet, all walking, no running, 3.5 hours in the heat, and I was BEAT and out of water when I got back to the truck.

Cameron Hanes is a beast. That guy runs at least 5 miles, lifts weights, and shoots his bow out to 160 yards every single day.

Of course people record their times and weights and try to be the best they can be- this is no different than people recording their weight, reps, and sets at a normal gym.

His dehydration analogy is terrible and not applicable, which even the author of this article admits.

Health decline in crossfit is imminent? Based on what?

        The author is a clown.

        Agree!!

I really worked hard for the goat hunt last year. I did the recumbent bike for 30 mins and then threw a 60-70# pack on and hit the treadmill for 45 min at a 12% incline.
I would also work core pretty hard.
Given all that, my legs got tired but never sore. I feel like if I do that again I'll be good but I'm behind.
Post up measurements and weight....let's push each other. Any one else care to join should do the same!

I will post my weight loss and accomplished lengths and levels of intensity twice weekly.

Maybe twice a month till the season comes we can have a area TBH trail hike or run if anyone is interested. Then to happy hour...lol. just joking.

My plan has always been to shoot one next to the truck. That has yet to work out.

no your right, but someone made it sound like their day pack weighed 40-60 lbs

He has been pretty dang successfull on the trail racing scene (Tracks in places such as the Grand Canyon and lengths as long as 100 miles)

His training? Crossfit 6 days per week

Of course he does a 10k trail run down here on this flat Texas stuff when he gets the chance 1-2 saturdays out of the month (because he enjoys it) but Crossfit is what prepares his entire body for these races. He is a physics teacher and studies the human body, how it works, and how to make it work at maximum output while maintaining a healthy fit body that will last WELL into your older stages of life without breaking his body down like all of his buddies that spend 100's of miles per week on their feet out on the trails/streets. He is 42yrs old -

I don't post this as a (my program is better than yours in your face type deal folks so please don't take it that way) just like most folks I don't understand how the human body can take short intreval training and turn it into the ability to do crazy endurance feats, but it does if you will give it the opportunity. If not, then that is fine as well - I just hope to be seeing a bunch of pics of you guys packing out giant bulls off the mountains in a couple of months so I can live through yall since I didn't get drawn

Codie, it looks like that Leadville Trail is shooting a bird at the runners. I bet that one is unbelievably tough. 26.2 miles. Steep. Thin air. DANG!
