And to be totally candid no one should be allowed to mfg and sell fertilizer with that low of insurance coverage. Where are the laws that are suppose to help us ???
Dang, my company is in the IT business and we don't have things that can blow up and we have to carry much more than $1 M.

I am sure the districts insurance is not paying and trying to force the fertilizer plants insurance to cover the loss. The sewer system and roads are another story entirely. That is a infrastructure issue, and there are other government programs both state and federal to assist with that.

I've been underinsured before because I couldn't afford it. Troubles came. And I didn't blame the ones who didn't have troubles or who HAD coverage. Not the governments job...

No one is blaming anybody. But when people have insurance that supposedly covers there house and there contents there expected to be covered. Now all the sudden there not covered and some of these elderly people have worked and payed for there places 50 years ago have nothing left. These same elderly people that live here even if they could afford to rebuild the water system for the north part of town was destroyed. It was estimated I believe to be like $5 mil to fix it. I guess they are just supposed to set back and wait for that money tree they planted a few weeks ago to start producing. But I'm sure those 10% of you people just have millions in your back pocket to rebuild the town. It's not a matter of just wanting a handout but some of these people have worked there whole lives and now on a fixed income have nothing to show for it. Get it together people. We are all texans.

Nobody said millions to fix anybody's town!My parents are in there 80's, never been above middle class but have enough "various" types of insurance to rebuild every property they own as they are right where the hurricanes love to travel......the New Orleans coastal area. (also known as cancer alley because of all the chemical plants along the river.) It is daggum expensive insurance but it is their responsibility to protect there 43 year investment.....without expecting, looking or asking for other Americans to pitch in!
Oh, after Katrina they did not ask for one thin dime. The multiple policies they had "invested" in for decades paid for everything that had even a smidget of damage.
In addition, they were here with us 3 days before the hurricane even made a landing and stayed 3 weeks following the "natural disaster!" Planning for the worse and praying for the best is how LIFE should be viewed by any and every American citizen. People in need will always be helped and I (plus the other 10%) will most likely be the first to pitch in to make sure they are taken care of.
