I've had an AMSEC for 20+ yrs. It has worked faithfully since I first got it, and I just moved it into its 5th different home.

AMSEC is one of the few electronic locks with a UL listing as well. A lot of folks think all electronic locks are the same. They are just like the safe....every brand is different.

I have had friends decided on an spin dial over electronic but hated the time it took to open.... Showed them how you can set the dial on 2 digit combo vs. a 6 (some of you think a crook can figure that out but you would be surprised)

As far as the "quickness" of an electronic keypad to get into the safe, IMO, if you're depending on storing your home defense gun in a gun safe like this, you're asking for trouble. Get a bedside quick access safe for your handgun.
I watched the video of that to, instead of flashing by it. He slid it in pretty qiuck and reset the lock to 12356(i think it was) so it reset the lock but he kept the metal strip in there as he repunch the new combo, unlocking the safe?
I guess in the long run I'm not really in to big of a hurry to into it, as you said my home defense is right where it needs to be. Good point Clint.

Was it still under warranty Swampa?

I really don't remember. This was back in 2004 or so. I just know they didn't give me any pushback.

I got locked out of my Canon. Called them and they went through the proceedure to get me back in. Not easy but it worked on the phone.

Ya I was kinda leery of the digital keypads when I got my cannon. Glad I went with the mechanical.

OK here is my question. You buy a safe for protection from theft and fire.....with the electronic key pad like on the one in the thread it would melt in any fire then what do you do? I dont see any company putting just a electronic keypad as the only way to get into a safe......All the ones I have seen you take off the touch pad and there was a keyhole ....

                        And a manual dial!

Nothing but a dial tumbler for me as well on my big safe. This isn't the first time I have heard of problems with a digital safe.

If your safe is in a fire its toast anyway. It really doesn't matter how they get in at that point.

Most reputable safe manufacturers will fully replace any safe that is in a fire.
