I live in Argyle now and am happy here. I can enjoy everything in the DFW with the family and still make it to the other parts of the state for outdoor activities. Oklahoma is close which is where I enjoy hunting. If I had to move it would be British Colombia or Alaska...if the wife would give me the ok.

Grew up in Abilene (almost literally all my family is still there), did 6 years in Austin and you couldn't pay me to move back. Now I live in the Piney Woods. IMO it's a nice place to visit, but I miss the sunsets and the humidity is killer from April/May - October.
My wife and I really love the Big Bend country, so Alpine would be great for a little while. Would truly like to have my kids grow up in town with their cousins and grandparents in Abilene.
Retirement home is on a lake in central TX with a crappie house all to myself.

I hear summers are pleasant and winters not too-too brutal.

here's an idea.... how bout we all just swap houses.... bottom line.... Texas is a great place to live regardless of where it is... I've been all over this state and there's something awesome about every corner.
Now... if I was dreaming,
#1) Lufkin area near Zavalla to be close to the lakes and have about 500-1000 acres of my own to play in.
#2) Midland/Odessa - hunting out there is great off the caprock and close to all things mountains
#3) Hill country / Boerne / Fredericksburg
