    Comet PanSTARRS in the sky!

This comet event is going to be going on for a number evenings. You can probably find your local viewing information pretty easily. Since this will appear stationary in the sky it might be a good long exposure camera opportunity.

We went to a location east of Bryan on Hwy 21 and found it with 10x42 Vortex binos around 8:15 and watched with the 80x200 Oberwerk binos until it got dim and close to the horizon by 8:30. It was located just north of due west. The tail was most visible higher above the horizon. Had an orangish-pinkish hue to it most likely due to the setting sun I would think. Not really bright enough without specialized photography equipment to get pics.

Hopefully it will get easier to see the next couple of days.

It is suppose to get higher every night but it is also starting it's trip away from earth. I'll be back out the next few nights checking it out. Love this stuff.

Hope so too Mike. If not, maybe get out away from the lights Friday or Saturday evening. Not an easy thing for you guys without driving I know.

This is a photo shown on the 10 PM news last night and was taken close to Lake Bryan. Guess where I'm headed this evening. I don't know the name to credit the photo to.

Moms and Dads you should really try to let your kiddos check this out. Doesn't happen real often. As I said first spotted with 10x42 binos but depending on the light pollution you might be able to see it with the naked eye.

I found out from the guy that took the photo that he spotted it about the time I did and used binos as well. He took only 1-2 second exposures at f2.8, iso 400, 100-200 mm.

Tonight it will be closely aligned with the very slight cresent moon so it should be easy to spot. I'm going to find another place closer to home now that I got the info from him.
