Anyone use their 17% deer protein? We have been feeding 20% Sportsman's Choice but I can save quite a bit of money by switching to Red Chain. Is there a reason it is so cheap or is it a quality feed?
I've used it and thought it was great. The only reason i don't, aside from looking for a new lease , is that they don't have many retailers in N. Tx. I even looked at becoming a distributor, but can't figure out the logistics. Their nutritionist is a great guy. I'd give a big thumbs up.
If you have the slightest doubt, you can simply pick up the phone and call their nutrionist - great guy.
We have used it and the deer consumed it at a far greater rate than anything else we have fed. My only issue is availability here in the DFW area and panhandle. Plus if you can go to the mill in Gorman, you can have some substantial savings.
The good thing is that the product is a peanut based product and the deer love it.
Sippy you are close enough that if I were in your shoes, I would feed nothing but Red Chain.
We used it for a few yrs with good results my only draw back was it was cash only at the mill.
Heck Cary will make up a feed just for your ranch alone, you can get rice branfrom him also!
Cary is a good guy,he was on here a few times I think he got banned and never came back, not sponsored or something!
We have been using red chain feeds for the past seven years and have been very impressed. Cary Zipp is the guy at Red Chain. He used to be a sales rep for Purina. When he found out we were high fenced, he came out to the place, took some soil and habitat samples and made us a custom mix. We have a 32 ton hopper and they come out and fill it within the week that we call him. He works with a biologist named Brian Allen who is a pretty good guy and has offered us a few pointers that have helped us over the years. We also work with Danny davis through TPWD. He helped us with our surveys and signing up for MLD. Also gave us some very cost effective habitat manipulation tips that only cost us time and some diesel that is really paying off.
This past year I put out 4500 #s in February and by October I was bringing back 4200 to feed my cows. But then again we didn't have any deer.
The year before we had lots of deer and we saw great results. We were using another feed mill and say some improvement, the first year we switched to red chain we noticed a difference. Deer seem to have more kickers and extra points with it.
I drove 80 miles to get it because its cheaper and good. Ive also wanted to become a dealer in the DFW area but not sure about the demand.
Its great feed. We have used it the past two years. Its peanut based and our deer seem to like it. The 20% is good also the only difference is it has a little more grain added to so I was told.

Ill use their 20% too. We have been feeding 17% from march-september and 20% november-feb
We switched to it this year and the deer are eating it good! We picked up at the mill, I noticed you said $400 a ton it must have went down a little we paid $420 about a month ago
