    Dieting tips? Paleo Diet?

So I have been working out everyday for a while now but, now I really want to start cutting the weight. I've been looking at lots of different diet plans and what not but can't really make up my mind. I have a few buddys on the paleo diet and it seems really appealing, anyone else on this diet? Or anyone else dieting and can share some tips on what worked and didnt work for you?

Brown rice, chicken or fish and whatever veggies you want and anytime you get hungry eat a banana or an apple and you will shred weight pretty darn quick if you add some cardio in your work out as well if you don't already.

My cousin is doing the paleo thing and has lost some weight. It goes back to cave man times when the diet was meat and fruits before the farms and grain which is were the carbs come from. Me I cant give up all bread, I just changed the way I eat. No more soda, drinking a ton of water. Eating clean whole foods and cut out almost all junk foods and lifting again. Only been at it a few weeks but I feel better and lost a few pounds.

Any fad diet is going to be tough to stick with for an extended period of time. The best thing to do is not look at "diet" as something you go on, but rather your daily food intake.

Change your eating habits and cut out processed foods (sugars, flours, etc). Eat lean proteins, whole grains, and fresh fruits and veggies. The weight will begin to disappear. You want your weight loss to be gradual, not a quick fix.

          This pretty much covers it.

I have been living a paleo/primal for almost 3 yrs now. I lost almost 50 lbs & have kept it off.

It's not a diet it must be a lifestyle

This. Eat foods as raw as they come. If it comes in a nice, little, neat wrapping its probably processed no matter how "healthy" it may appear. Fewer calories, more exercise, gradual weight loss.

Portion control and change your eating habits but allow a cheat meal at least once a week.

                    Re: Dieting tips? Paleo Diet?

I don't think it's quite a fad, it's been around for a while. The age is in the name but it has certainly gained in popularity since crossfit has gotten so popular. I see it's benefits. But any diet that consists of eating good lean meats and veggies and avoiding sugars and other crap should work well... if you stick with it.

Paleo ---> yes! I have not felt better in years. By cutting the dairy, sugar, wheat and grains, my body is reacting very positively. I am dropping lbs easier than ever before because my metabolism is acting normally - at last!!! I have more energy than I've had in years.

Most dairy is pasteurized, which loses most of the good bacteria and our bodies do not process it in the way we should. If you get gassy and bloaty, chances are you're lactose intolerant.

Grains - even alleged whole grains - are not the way they were designed by our Creator. Grains are separated and put back together to give "whole grains", which have lost most of the beneficial properties, but the FDA and USDA don't care about that. So, that's why so many people are gluten sensitive. The grains ain't what they're supposed to be.

Sugar - well, that's a major killer no matter how you slice it.

So... cutting all of that stuff leaves lots of meats, salads, veg, fruit, some nuts, fats - the very basic elements of food that were put on this earth for us.

I follow this way of eating, mostly organic and little to no processed food - thank you very much - and I eat very well. As, um, anyone who has met me will verify.

Check out the book, "It Starts With Food", as a great start on this way of eating. It is NOT a fad diet - it's eating real food, lots of it, and being sensitive to what our bodies need, not what what we want.

If you're going the organic route, be careful at Whole Foods. Yes, they have a lot of good stuff, but some products have all sorts of hidden ingredients. Check labels and be on the look out for the HFCS, nitrates, MSG and other hidden nasties. Kroger have introduced a line of organic products, called Simple Truth. A Signature store will have a great Natures Market area, which is more affordable than Whole Foods. Good luck!

btw - my favorite breakfast or snack... Banana smoothie made with coconut milk (you'll use lots of that), cashew butter (high dollar stuff), a dash of vanilla and ice. Yum!!

                              Dieting tips? Paleo Diet?

Quick question about changing to eating this way: can anyone tell me what the overall effect on your monthly food budget is? Say, compared to what you spent on average before you changed your eating habits? Do you spend more on groceries now, or less because you are cutting out extras? With the cost of everything going up, I am just curious. I don't want to base what I eat off of how much it costs, because my son and my health comes first, but as a single mom on a limited budget I'd like to have an idea of what to expect.
