If I were KK unless Leach was sending me about $30,000/weekly then he would just have to understand why I would go to TT. I don't know what he makes at A&M but I'm thinking about $500K before his raise this year. Figuring $2M with incentives as HC.
He isn't limiting it based on HC or system. It is based on the best fit for Tech, Lubbock and West Texas as well as someone Hocutt believes can win and win big. Here is an exact quote on what he said at the press conference yesterday:

My focus and my commitment to this university and to our fans in the coming days and in the coming weeks is to find the very best head coach in the country who wants to be at Texas Tech University.

As we begin the search for the next head coach, it is important for us to find an individual that has the following characteristics and possesses the following qualities. In every sense of the word we want to find a leader, winner, want to find someone who knows the fabric of west Texas, someone who is committed and wants to be a part of our great community.

Fit is very important to me, and I think finding the right fit for Texas Tech is critical at this point in time.

We want a winner, leader, who is going to position us to compete at the highest levels competitively. Our goal is very simple. Our goal is to be the best college football program in the country to compete for Big 12 championships and to compete for national championships.

Just as an FYI.....just to give some insight to what kind of character Tuberville has.....Hocutt also said this:

    Q. Did you get a sense that he'd be looking elsewhere, that he was looking at the Arkansas, Tennessee job?

KIRBY HOCUTT:The first indication I got was at 10:32 this morning when he called me. Tommy and I have talked a number of times since the conclusion of the Baylor game this year, and as recently as yesterday he looked me in the eye and gave me his commitment and dedication to Texas Tech football and leading this football program forward.

For some context, Cincy's AD called Hocutt to express his intention of talking with Tubs about the job at 9:30 Saturday morning. Tubs called and resigned at 10:30. One hour from first contact to done deal......yeah right. Tubs is a liar and a sack of crap.

Honestly, I think that is as deep as they have to go. I believe that it will be one of the names you listed. You could likely even leave Dykes off of the list.

Agreed 100%. Especially with Brown leaving now. It is critical to move fast and get Kliff......I mean whoever Hocutt decides on.....in place.

As much as I would hate to lose KK, I'm ok with him leaving to go back home if he chooses.

I gained a lot if respect for Tech when they stood up against the LHN TV game and if they had KK, I will be watching. New young blood just might be what Tech needs considering the tenure of Brown and Stoops.

I agree that we need young blood. Here is a brief synopsis of Kliff's career since he graduated from Tech:

        – Played quarterback at Texas Tech; threw for 12,429 yards, 95 touchdowns and 40 interceptions

        – Selected in the 6th round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots

        – Waived by the Pats after landing on IR, then later signed with the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos and New York Jets

        – Jets sent him to NFL Europe in 2006 where he posted the top quarterback rating in the history of the Cologne Centurions

        – Signed with with the Buffalo Bills but did not play in the regular season

        – Spent 2007 in in the CFL

        – Joined the University of Houston staff in 2008 in position of quality control; drawn to Houston by Dana Holgerson, his receivers coach at Texas Tech

        – Promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach when Holgerson left for West Virginia; quickly gained coach Kevin Sumlin’s trust and began calling all the offensive plays

        – Named 2011 Offensive Coordinator of the Year

        – Followed Sumlin to Texas A&M after Houston’s record-breaking season in 2011; Houston led the NCAA in almost every offensive category in his final season with the Courgars

        – Currently in his first season as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M

        – Named 2012 Offensive Coordinator of the Year

I'm tired of hearing folks say he isn't ready. He can coach. He can recruit. The only question is if he has the connections to bring in the staff he needs to be successful on the defensive side of the ball. That is an unknown. Of course, Tubs was supposed to be a defensive genius and he couldn't field a defense to save his life.

Just an FYI, that's pretty normal. Coaches don't do the negotiating, they make their feelings known to their agents and they do it all in the background.

I understand you are mad at him right now, I have been there more than once, but don't let that cloud your view of what's going on. Tubberville used tech and tech used Tubberville. I don't think either thought this was a long term agreement.

I honestly use to root for Tech in high school and while i was at A&M and that changed drastically because of the treatment we recieved. It shocked and saddend me when we got here. Since A&M is in the SEC I truly hope Tech finds a great coach as I wish to see them beat TX and OK now.
I refused to attend TT games in LBK during my tenure at TAMU...for fear of the treatment by fans and also the stories I hear about LOE targeting opposing fan base on game weekends.

That being said these might be rumors and I wouldnt know since I never went. However, just the fact that it kept me away speaks volumes.

I never had a hatred for Tech but I never visited Lubbock for a game and I never got a good impression of fans visiting CS. I saw us lose heartbreakers in CS and win big in CS and the fans were the same.

I am not a fan basher....many other schools came and went with little or not trouble. This one "rivalry" just brought out the bad in some folks on both sides of the ball.

Exactly...and too big if a risk for a relevant program to take. He will have to take a HC job at a lesser program to prove himself first. TT can not afford to make another mistake in coaching hire at this time.

I would be surprised if they actually did interviews in Lubbock. Unless it's a done deal and they brought him in to do a final and introduce him as head coach.

He was in New York all weekend and there would have been plenty of time for him to interview there where nobody would know.
