Time Clock Recommendations?

I have been way too nice to my secretary for way too long now. Have always just used an honor system and honestly just give her 80 every two weeks anyway...but I think she is starting to take a little too much- If I come in early she is never here yet, but swears its just those days. This morning was over 30 min late again..... to her defense a lot of days she takes little to no lunch or grabs something and comes right back and stays open...

I want an affordable time clock to mount on wall and her to punch daily. Im sure many are digital now or whatever...

I see some affordable, but some look like junk...

Anyone personally use one that is decent or have one in small business?

can't you just check the log in/log out times on her computer?

We use the acroprint don't know model number but its not digital works good.

I thought of that...but she often doesnt log in to company system until first clients comes in,etc.... its a web page and then log in and no way I know of to check anyway....

Im thinking a good old fashion punch this and thats what your getting paid

one person office, a timeclock seems like a distrustful move and a waste of money....

have a nice conversation with her that she is on the clock, and if she wants to get paid for the 80, she has to do the 80

or just have her email you from the office email when she gets there. Time stamped. Done.

One person office? It may come back and bite you. If she is getting lunch, but grabs something and comes back to office, then with the clock, she may decide she is going to take her full hour. Then nobody in office to take care of whatever she does when she grabs and gets back in office.

I would talk with her, let her know how you feel and what is expected. If she does not like it, then ask her for her two week notice.

Before you do that there may be better/cheaper options. For instance talk to her and tell her you don't care if shes a little late or leaves a little early as long as she makes the time up elseware. Then have her e-mail you when she gets in/leaves. Make sure she knows your not going to punish her for a LITTLE variance.. as long as shes not taking advantage of it.

I worked at a company before that didnt pay very well but they allowed a lot of flexibility.. they would let us work through lunch or eat at our desk without charging.. leave a little early or come in late without worrying... everyone liked the atmosphere and got their work done. (was only about 16 employees at this office)

One day a new guy took over the office because the old office supervisor retired.. he came in and set a bunch of strict rules started making people come in on time and leave on time and 6 months later half the office had quit to go make more money and they shut the satelite office down.

So to save yourself having to find a new secritary make sure you pay her the same as strict companies do and make sure she knows that your not going to be overly strict about it!

And I am VERY sorry that I strayed from your question and gave you my opinion... just figured you may not have thought about it from her eyes yet!

Keep in mind that people only stay with a company for two reasons.. one is that they love working for the place and get treated better than anyone else will treat them. Two is that they get paid better than anyone will pay them. If you want her to be there long time.. make sure you keep one of those two in your favor!

We have a time clock on our computers. You click on the home screen icon, window pops up & you type in your number to clock in or clock out. I think these are cheaper than the wall ones. Our FD also uses finger print wall clocks... But errors out a lot and you stand there for 5 minutes trying to get it to read your finger.

This is what I am trying to get across in my long post above.. if shes a good employee... I wouldn't sweat it too much.. having an employee that cares about her job and will go the extra mile when needed but slacks off on her punctuality will be a MUCH greater benifit than someone who works 8-5 on the dot no matter what and treats the company as a paycheck.

We had a finger print one in our shop and it was a nightmare for our mechanics, a little bit of grease and it was a train wreck. I like the computer idea, have to look at it.
