There was a time and place for Unions and that time and place is LONG Gone... With all the labor laws in place now, Unions are hurtiung more than they help. I am lucky in that I live in a "Right to Work" State and unions are few and far between. Not bashing unions, just stating how I feel. I do not agree and they tend to end up costing more jobs than helping in creating more jobs...
There Rant over...
Carry On.....

This started way before the strike. Read the whole article and others. Their profits had been falling and the upkeep of the facilities had been terrible. In today's economy people will buy cheaper brands when well known brands are 25-50% more in cost. I bet companies like Little Debbie are doing just fine.
Even if the union had settled it was only a matter of time before this took place.

You all should really do some research before you start blaming the union for IBC's downfall.
IBC has been bought and sold several times over the last decade, by Hedge fund owners and venture capital companies..( much like Romney owned)
The corp. did not put any capital improvement's into the bakeries, so all the facilities have become outdated. And unable to turn a profit. Then they would sell it again. And the cycle continued to today. That is why they were shutting down 3 bakeries, the owners wouldn't spend the millions to update, all the money went in their pockets.
And the Bimbo comment, well it wouldn't surprise me..... I have 20 yrs. in, started before it was Bimbo.
They have bought everyone else across the nation. Sara lee, orowheat, Mrs. Bairds, etc.

The research was done, the new contract was the only way to save the business and these guys decided to put thousands including themselves out on the street instead of doing what it takes to keep the company that pays them a float.
