    East Texas Rut

Another long debate at the lease this weekend. Has the E. Texas rut passed or are we just in a slow period with a lot of acorns and a full moon. I know the peak is typically at the beginning of Nov but we are still seeing bucks together on the trail cams. All this is making it challenging.

    Opinions from others?

I live in Canton and normally the 1st day of Nov. I see it kicking hard. Not this year, no sign around me. I've observed several does by themselves and bucks alone. I think acorns, moon and heat have slowed it some. I have seen 3-4 bucks ran over which does indicate some movement in that direction.

What we've seen so far is pre-rut stuff . Primary rut is normally around Thanksgiving week. On our lease it seems the 2 to 3 weeks after the primary has been when all the best bucks have been killed .

Red River seems to be pre rut. Seen some younger bucks trailing, but nothing full blown yet.

I saw several bucks chasing does two weeks ago. This past weekend there was nothing moving.

I saw a button buck still with his mom last weekend in Trinity County, so she hasn't been bred.

Hunted for the past 3 days-nothing moving for us, strangely quite. Only heard a few shots. Different from years past.

I dont believe it has happened at my Houston County lease. Younger bucks are chasing looking for does, but the does aint having it yet. I look for it to bust loose very soon though. Now my Polk Co lease had tons of bucks chasing 2 weeks ago, but I am not sure the does were ready I think the bucks were just premature rutters.

I know up here in the very far top corner of northeast texas the rut usually starts kickin hard around the middle of november. Ive always witnessd the main rut around the middle of this month.
