They go up proportionately if not sometimes negatively compared to what we spend on it. And labor cost is not less. Compared to 5 years ago when min wage was 5.15, once again, the percentage I spend on labor and food is MORE, which means I make the same of not LESS
How is Sonics labor cost not less if they pay $5.15 and whataburger pays $7 or whatever min wage is?

I always use my card, so no. But **** I BET THEY BANK at a $1 a car for a high school kid.... They probably hit 25-30 cars an hour.

There are times that I have a problem with tipping. Especially when I am told that it is customary to tip a certain% even for poor service. I don't mind tipping when the service is above average but don't expect me to pay your employees salary. If you don't like it get a better job. I teach for a living i don't tip jar on my desk. I worked on ranch for many years busted my a-- from daylight to dark didn't get tips.... Sons in military if you figure their salary they make less than minimum wage. Don't get tips. It cracks me up to stop at a gas station and see a tip jar beside the register. I shouldn't have to pay you for doing your **** job. Tips are a bonus for going above and beyond that. You don't have to agree with me this my opinion. We still live in America and I have the right to state it. And I'm sick of people wanting something for nothing.

Pretty sure he is comparing Sonic to Sonic over time, not Sonic to the Whataburger next door at a static point. I don't tip at Sonic, but didn't realize the carhops weren't paid min wage at least either. I may start, but as a whole I don't agree with any restaraunt paying $2.15 and hour or whatever and expecting the customer to cover the rest. Why should a liability come off their books and add to the one on mine. They should have to pay min wage, build it into the food cost and cust will decide to eat there or not. If customers tip and the waiter make $30 an hour good for them for working hard. It would take more money than that for me to want to be a waiter unless my family was hungry and that was the only option...

So what you're saying is he wasn't responding to what he quoted?

"If Sonic doesn't pay their help much and expects me to help with that, fine. They should lower their prices since their labor cost is less."

Yes, I do. A friends daughter works at one and the base pay is "pretty base."

If I'm paying with cash,(99% of the time), I will tip. If I am asked if I want my change I will say no, you can keep the change, I do want the folding money. If I am not asked I will tip between $1-$2 when I'm by myself. Up to $5 if it's the whole family.

In my opinion, no. I assume the rebuttal will be that the other guys don't have the extra outside help, which falls under my original opinoin that all costs should be built into the food, but we are a little off topic here.

I always tip them, those kids work hard!

I hate the fact that you cant add a tip on the debit machine. So I keep a roll of $1 in the Tundra. I got like 50 bucks, there is a Sonic about 5 mins outside the lease gate...
