No, I'm tipped out. Everywhere you go someone wants a tip. I realize they built this into their system, but why is that my fault? If they have a drive thru then I use that. I DON'T want to sit in my car and eat. If I go there I am getting it to go and to me that is no different than Whataburger or McD's. Its not my fault if that location does not have a drive thru. Plus, I ALWAYS use my credit card so NEVER have money. The other option is to simply not eat there, but I'm not sure that helps anything. If people didn't eat there, the place would go out of business and everyone who worked there would be out of a job. To be honest, because of the tipping thing I try to never go there, but again, I'm not sure that is helping the employees.

My B-I-L owns one in Ft. Worth and I've been schooled on tipping the car hops. YES, please tip. That's how his daughters helped pay for college and they both bought their own cars by learning to save their tips.

If they start counting change I tip them, if they give me bills back and assume they can keep the loose change they get called back and I get my change.

I like this plan.

I have actually fired carhops for asking to keep change or just walking away with. It is a courtesy luxuries that they should not expect but if they do their job and that is the reward for doing so. I instructed them to give all change back to all customers until the customer says keep this or keep that. That is how I find my people

Hearing tips are built into Sonic's business model now pretty much seals the deal on me never going back.

So are you also saying that you also won't be visiting any other restaurants where tipping is a part of their business model?


Personally, I tip them whether I pay with cash or CC.... if they are quick, friendly, and seem to have some pride in what they are doing. It's never a lot, just .50 to $1.00. I pretty much hit the same sonic here in gtown when I go. Everyone always seems to be a in a pretty good mood and hustling. Seldom a mistake on the order.
