I sold my 3006 and now shoot a 308. Reason I said 3006 is availability of bullets if in a bind (you can count on always finding 30-06 ammo anywhere - 308 not so much). Ballistics of 06 and 308 are pretty darn close. If hand loading is something u are into - then 308 (that is about only advantage I reckon). They both are great calibers and kill deer just as good as the other.

7 mag will be my next gun due to its ballistics - its a flat shooter. Not overkill either. Not that I have ever had many shots over 275 but less holdover needed is fine with me just my two cents.

By the way - a TC is on my bucket list as well. Had I done my homework I would have gotten the encore or pro hunter before I purchased the full time TC muzzie. Would have been nice to change the barrel over for 3 weeks of muzzie season

Love both .280 and .308 with 150 gr for whitetail. They shoot better to me than the 06 I had. Either of the two will work great! .308 ammo is pretty readily and cheaper than .280. .280 is easy enough to get online and pro shops or academy.

well i ordered my buttstock, forend grip, and DNZ Game reaper scope mount for my rifle barrel. i got them from Cheaper than Dirt for a pretty good price. sales tax on the internet stinks, i like it how it used to be. I went with the Flex Tech forend and buttstock that come on the pro hunters. I am looking at a Match Grade Machine barrel, http://matchgrademachine.com/home.php.
they used to be Virgin Valley Gun and apparently used to make the E.R. Shaw barrels. I am looking at the 1:12" twist in 26" length. I am still debating a 1:10" twist, they have both and i will make a decision after talking to them. i dont think that i will shoot less than 165 gr. bullets but could go up to 180 or 200. from what i have researched a 1:12 would do good up to 200 gr.

                  .308 barrel will last longer.

I really like my 7 mag though.

it's the best of both worlds.
                      And super accurate.

30.06. King in the world of hunting good for anything in North America and the ammo has limitless choices off the shelf let alone reloading. My encore is on my lap right now. We are waiting for an arkansas deer to walk by for a Ml moment. 2 weeks from now we will head down to TX with the 30.06 barrel looking for a deer and a few hogs. Get the 30.06 its just a better hunter than the 308 and cheaper than the 280.

I like all of our .308's.

that is my caliber of choice. 3006 is good to. I just have .308s so that is what I use...
