Well maybe not but its something to consider, and there is a big difference in barrel life between the two.

Everything else is compared to the 30-06 for a reason! Easy to find ammo, will kill anything walking, recoil aint bad, bullets from 65-250 grain can be loaded....etc...etc...etc...

IMO the best all-round cal is a 7 mag. But you can't go wrong with a 30-06 or 280. if you go 06 then you'll need a faster twist barrel then a 1:12. With that heavy of a bullet a 1:10 would probably be most common.

308 if you want to shoot suppressed.

          30.06 if not.

Just buy 2 barrels... Barrels are easy to find a space for in the safe.

Theres a spot for both in hunting, why pick when you can have both?

it's the best of both worlds.
              And super accurate.

couldn't agree more,, long range short range high bc, mild recoil, make brass from 243 or 308 excellant round

Watch the classifieds over on 24hourcampfire... Buying used will save you 150 bucks. I see encore barrels on there all the time for 185-250 just a thought.

Personally though if i bought a 30.06 barrel for the encore i would want it with a muzzle break.

Just curious why do you want the heavier bullet weights? Are you going to be hunting Elk? The 150gr .308 is way more than enough for anything here in Texas.

                    lovetohunt,
yea that is why i would want the heavier weight, it would be a occasional thing so i would not buy a barrel based on a 200 gr weight. I am thinking that i will probably shoot 165 the majority of the time. i agree that a 150 would suffice.
                    Coach
thanks for the site, the one i am looking at is 350. I've never had a barrel on a gun other than what came with it so i am in virgin ground and to buy one from T/C is just as expensive as this custom barrel.

i just got a Match Grade Machine Barrel, 26" .308 1:10 twist heavy contour, blued. cant wait for it to come in. just got confirmation that my other components are coming in from cheaper than dirt monday or friday (hopefully friday)

30-06 is my choice. Me and a buddy of mine who has a 308 that looks identical to mine shot a 1/4" plate at 300 yards and the 06 punched right through it and we picked his bullets (mushroomed) at the bottom of the plate he just put a dent in it but came very close to busting through it. THEN AGAIN!!! A well placed shot the 308 will do any job you want it to for any hunting purpose. IMO

I thought about snagging one of these barrels too.. Cutting it down and threading it... Shooting it suppressed. let me know how it shoots!
