NEVER Buy a Homelite with the plastic adjustable wheel for the chain. Just read the reviews on Home Depot's web site on them and you will understand.

I made that mistake, contacted the manu on it and they replaced it with a better brand for free. They did stand behind the product but it was truely a dangerous chain saw.

            chain saws

I love chain saws even got one for my 19th birthday, sense then I've had stihl, husqvarna, and echo. Stihl and husqvarna are my favorite stihl being the best of the 2 and unless its a husqvarna that is older and made in Germany the new ones are made by poulan believe it or not

Wanna buy hand tools, get craftsman. Wanna buy something you can throw away, buy poulan. Yell down a canyon, you'll get and echo. Wanna buy a chainsaw, get stihl. I have the 250 and it does all I need on mesquites here in west texas. When I go home to east texas it's kinda small on some trees and I wish I still had my 44 or one around the old 36 range. My 250 was a little over $300 I believe but you can get the 170 or 180 for about $200. They aren't great for anything but small firewood or shrubs. You might look at a 211 or something in that range.

Stihl, i have 4 of them in all sizes, plus the combi system!
                      Love them all.
I have a MS 310 over 20 years old, a newer model with the easy start ( it took a while for me to get used to it, but I like it now). I also like my commercial limb size saw, perfect for keeping in the truck

I have a Stihl buddy has an echo we beat them up pretty bad and really don't take care of them his echo just croaked after 13 yrs my Stihl is only six years old. Only difference we noticed between the two is we leave them sitting a few months over winter the Stihl will start every time by the 3rd pull the echo sometimes is temperamental after a long sit

Best saw around $250 would be an Echo. Best saw would be a Jonsered...
