I got a Husqvarna. Only problem is it's cold natured. Used it a bunch for 7-8 years and still works great.

I bought a refurbished ECHO at a good price thinking it would last me a year of hard use...neighbor dozed off 200 arces and really used it that year to cut mesquite. 5 years later that thing is still running strong.

I was actually looking for a Stihl dealer at the time I bought the echo...the echo's been good to me...I change the chains periodically and have 3+ chains ready to swap out once I notice the difference in the edge/cutting.

I got a Stihl 170 earlier this year for slightly over $200 out the door and that inlcuded a Stihl brand orange hard plastic case as well.

My Stihl starts every time even if it's been sitting a year. My favorite tools are the ones I DON'T have to work on when I need them. That's why I bought and love a Stihl.

just bought an Echo 320 and really like it, but it was closer to $300. Got the 320 over the 235 because of the 18" bar vs. 16". This after coming off an old school McCollough that weighed 1,000 lbs.

Thanks for all of the info guys!

Guess it's between Stihl, Echo, and Husqvarna

Next question is should I go with a 16, 18, or 20 inch blade

Like a tractor. Always go bigger if you can afford it. You never want to be under powered when trying to do a job!

check your local equipment rental places. you can rent and test different brands and models. sometimes you can buy from them either new or used.

All depends on what brand u go with, 16 and 18" are probaly in ur price range but I doubt ull find a 20" in ur price range. I have the stihl ms290 and it's a bad beast, never had any problems with it and I've used and abused it for the past 5 years

With a 16" bar, I've felled some pretty darn big trees.

I don't want anything to add extra weight to my saw. It's enough of a workout just operating it.

The Husqvarna saws you see at big box stores like Lowes and TSC are not going to be the same as the ones you see at a dealer. Watch their origin. The cheap ones are being farmed out to China, and I've heard some not good things about warranty.

Apparently Stihl is doing the same (I haven't looked at them in a while though)

The Echo CS360T that I have is assembled in the USA with parts from USA and a few from China. I'm not sure about others, I have had this saw for a few years now.

Nothing but Stihl, last one finally played out after 16 years. Upgraded from 18" to 26" best buy far

I have the stihl MS310 which is a good saw for cutting big live oak limbs. The stihl farm boss is a good machine and I think Michael just bought one size smaller than the farm boss. You can't go wrong with a Stihl.

I have two stihls and they start right up everytime. Wouldn't consider anything else.

I have an old Poulan that I could never get to run very good until I started running TrueFuel(pre-mix no ethanol fuel) through it...runs great now for what it is(old cheap chain saw), use it 4-5 times a year at the lease.
