I still think deer read the hunting manual and know when season starts. Lol
When I go pull my card from my camera, I DRIVE up to the feeder to pull the card and will still have deer there a few hours after I leave. When I hunted this weekend, I walked about 500-600 yrds to the stand and only saw 1 spike.
I don't know weather to blame it on the weather, the acorns, the fact that the bucks are chasing does here, or something else???
I might just have someone drive me and drop me off at the stand. Maybe they're used to trucks, and maybe I left a scent trail while walking in??
Well, maybe it'll get better for both you and me

I don't use game cameras because I don't want to set myself up for failure, if i see Mr Big on camera in Aug or Sept, only to wait on him, and never lay eyes on him.
The moon and acorns def played a role in limited game movement this weekend at our place, but the deer will eventually show up and when they do, hopefully I'll be ready.

Quit worrying so much. Hunting is supposed to be fun.

As for the stand, sticking it 35-40 yds from the feeder is a bad idea
Ive been telling a fella that all weekend. People put waay too much worry into hunting a little ole deer! It will happen, just give it time, enjoy being out there and try and remember you dont have to kill something to have a successful hunt

Deer are not as stupid as one would imagine. All of a sudden all over the state huge numbers of people head for the woods on days before opening day, and people expect deer to continue business as if nothing has happened?

Let the deer get somewhat used to the sudden unrest in their everyday goings. If they have not been hit by poachers, you might get lucky and they might show up again.

              Good luck........patience!

Philip they are changing from their summer patterns now as the testosterone is rising. Food sources are changing too, and acorns are their #1 food they like. The rain we just had is gonna rot those acorns faster than they can eat it. If you can put out some winter wheat and or chickory(to grow) around your feeders as another attractant to the area that may help and do it soon. Hand seed it and walk over it to get it covered. It is wet enough that you don't need equipment to do it and it don't have to be pretty right now. Just some tender new growth coming in to get their attention. The big issue this weekend was the moon and the rain.
If you can't get back for 2 more weekends it will be new moon and prime time for am and pm hunts and if the moon is overhead and underfoot then as well, you better be there and ready!!!!!
I also firmly believe if deer (buck or doe) live thru 1-2 seasons they learn very quickly to associate the rising hormonal changes in their bodies with hunting season and that also changes their patterns.
You will do it. I have no doubt. Will be rooting for ya.
