I might be wrong but I just don't see a 500lb safe getting pushed on a piece of carpet. I moved my mom's piano that probably easily weighed 400+ and even on a dolly, it split the linoleum. I'd lay down the plywood and try the golf balls. It's going to be a PITA either way.
A 500lb safe is easy to move with a dolly with pneumatic rubber tires. If all else fails you can drag it on a quilt across bare floors. Not much different than moving a big refrigerator.
Nothing to it. Now when you step up to the 1000-1500lb mark thats when it gets tough.
I should be picking up my gun safe this evening from Tractor Supply.
I have two corners to get around in the hallway and I don't think that leaning it back on a dolly will work. Any great ideas on moving it. It weights 500 lbs and is 30"x26" and about 5 ft high.
did mine with the dolly and one spotter-wasnt that bad at all

Just relaying what has worked for me, without big strong help, multiple times.
Go buy some wooden dial rods and cut them to length. You won't have to pick it up as high as the golf balls. Just roll it along and replace them as you roll off of them. I have moved several and this works the best. The furniture four-wheel cart works well too, but you have to get it way off the ground, which I don't recommend for one or two people.
Move it with the dolly.......when you get to the corner set it down on thick piece of carpet......slide it around the corner and pick it up again with the dolly. opps........I am assuming you have hard floors. Won't work on carpet.
