Sorry, I don't mean to highjack the thread, but you're no the first one I hear say/type this. Why is it that the big ones are worth $? How much? & Where would you sell them?

Back to the topic of snake boots. How well do the snake shin guards work against snake bites in comparison to snake boots?
At any where from 4 to 8 dollars per pound, the bigger they are the more they bring.
The shin guards work just fine but are uncomfortable to me. Justin or Chippewa boots are the way to go and any tall cowboy boot will work also.

Glad to hear about the rubber boots.
Had to get that snake to strike me three times before we got the right shot.

Really it's not about having big uns, it's just knowing and understanding the animal your dealing with. ( but it is fun to see people freak out when you do it. )

Ben hit twice, both times by biguns. Neither got through my jeans/cowboy boots. Second one was memorable. He was 6' + and hit me right above the ankle from under a little juahilla bush. Caught me completely by surprise without rattling. I standing broad jumped about 10' with him hung on my jean cuff. Left a softball sized wet spot of venom on my jeans. I literally shot him off my leg.

Got hit about 3 years back in Rocksprings as I came out of my pop up from the afternoon hunt. Felt like a stick hitting the boot. I looked down and there he was. My eyes got as big as softballs when I realised what it was. I tried to step back and he hit me again in the ankle area. I must have jumped 5ft and the sound that came out of my mouth was pretty similar to a teenage girl in a horror movie. I fired 4 rounds of snake shot from my Kimber 45at 10ft. A little over kill but under the circumstances it was JUSTIFIED. Also anyone who says to remain calm when a rattler is 6 inches from your just hasn't been there or has nerves of steel. Little sucker nevere rattled a peep either. Where my Chippawa's every where I go. never made it through the boot or ankle area.

I was popped several times as a teenager in my boots. This was NM quail and rabbit hunting. Kinda got used to it and just kept moving when you were on a large covey.

Had a cotton mouth hit my plain Danner hunting boots and hold on t'il I kicked his head loose with my other boot. I was messin with him, but I did not expect him to be able to get me. No harm done at least.

Im guessing you had your snake boots on and he didnt break the skin?

Been struck at once, he missed my ankle by a hair. I was wearing regular work boots. I will never forget that hissing striking sound. I screamed like a girl for literally 30 seconds and was shaking for an hour.

Yes in Dilley a few years ago walking out from the mornimg hunt he was in a bar ditch hit me about mid calf felt like a 2x4 smacked me. 6 footer left a lot of venom dripping down my rubber snake boot. He made me do the jickie dance he had to die.

Been hit once, struck at once, and had close encounters with to many to count. I was walking to the stand with my bow and stepped past a bush and wack, right on the calf! I was wearing chippewas thank the Lord. Turned to see what had just made me poop myself and it was a 3 footer. Never buzzed up once. I was driving the golf cart around my dads place a few years back and had about a 7 footer strike the cart! It startled me so I swerved and almost crashed into a dry creek bed.

Been hit with boots on 3 times and once with chaps on. Snake boots chaps are worth their weight in gold. Looking to get a pair of the Justins here soon......
