First you get a big trailer.

Next you pull the truck up on the trailer.

Then you get someone else to pull the trailer to wherever you need to go.

    ...or buy a Honda.

Hard tonneau bed cover is likely to help as much as anything you can do under the hood. Last two tanks in my F150 eco have been just over 18 in mostly city driving (been driving the Duramax on the weekends).

Edit: If i was only getting 12, I'd still drive a truck.

First of all no offense to anyone talking about programmers, but if thier was away to menipulate fuel mixture to improve MPG this would be done OEM. Remember manufactures are given tax brakes on MPG improvements. Cold air intakes for example can improve horse power and maybe fuel mileage, but you sacrifice screwing a MAP readings. K&N will improve Air Flow, but probably not MPG. Your best shot is to keep up with Maintenence. Such as Fuel Injec. Cleaning, Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Alignments, and Rot and Balances. Alignment cant kill fuel mileage... the only investmnet I would suggest would be to call a performance shop and ask for a Computer/ECM Tune. A good computer tech can change and optimize trims to help MPG's. The cost is generally 200-300...

So lets think about this...............at the cheapest, add on's are going to cost you say around $500. IF these add on's get you (at best) an extra 2 mpg, with say an average of a 20 gallon fillup. That means you will get an extra 40 miles per tank. Let's use a round number of $4/gallon. So that means you are "saving" $8 per fillup. So $500 divided by $8 equals, 62. It will take you 62 fillups to break even on those mods. More than likely, you are going to spend more than $500 for all those mods, so it'll take you even longer the more you spend.

Best advice has been given already. Keep your foot out of it, keep tire pressure good, slow acceleration/stops, grin and bear it at the pump.............I'm in the same boat except I already had a motorcycle before gas prices went up. It is nice getting 40mpg instead of 16 in the truck.
