Lol Return on investment on aftermarket stuff is zero. But back when on my 2002 f150 I did a k&n cold air system and throttle body spacer and new mass airflow sensor. Also high flo magniflow cats and new 40 series flow master. Seemed to gain some power but never noticed a gain on mpg...

I've been looking at midsized trucks, my SportTrac(Ford doesn't makethem anymore) has 163k and is starting to shift funny sometimes. The newer 1/2 ton trucks are rated about the same mileage as Tacos/Durangos/etc, doesn't seem right that a truck that weighs 30% less than a full size gets similar mileage...

Hundreds or thousands on mods to add 1 or 2 mpgs isn't cost effective. Thousands on a 2nd vehicle (small car or motorcycle) that gets good mpg + insurance on the 2nd vehicle isn't cost effective. If you want to drive a big pickup, then just pay for the gas. If you want good gas mileage, then sell the big truck and buy a small car or motorcycle. There's no way to drive a big pickup and spend just a small amount of money on gas, unfortunately.

First thing I did when I got my truck in 08 was get a KN air filter. Not sure how much it helps but I get around 18 mpg on the highway.

The Days of Thunder slingshot move works well for me. Anyone else think that movie was Top Gun but with cars instead of planes? Yes, I do have ADD tyvm!

13 is what it is getting. When it was new it got around 17mpg. About 3yrs ago it spit out a plug and messed a head up. Well with me being Mr. Mechanic, I really screwed things up trying to fix it. Had to get the motor rebuilt. MPG has sucked ever since. One thing I did was change the injectors on it. I think I got some with a different psi rating. It may be dumping more fuel because of this. I'm going to dig around and see if I kept the factory ones. I'm also Mr. Pack Rat.

Set the cruise to 65 instead of 70+

Is it possible to use public transportation, rideshare, bike or walk to work?

Are there any small 4x4 trucks such as Toyota Tacoma that would be more cost effective than a 1/2 ton pu?
