On the rare occasion it happens here on campus the first person that can get the door open is the authorized person.

I got trapped in an elevator at the library when I was in college...I didnt care who got me out of the elevator or whether they were authorized...all I cared was that I got out.

anyone with the ability to open the hatch roof if needed, floor doors, and internal door...
all elevators come with the key to the slide doors

X1000 to that!!!! I was trapped in an elevator in 2003 for over 6 hours with no lights or power.......what made it worse it was stuck between floors in the basement of a nuclear reactor Safe to say that I well exceeded my dose rate for that jump!

Mostly it's just the elevator repair companies, building maintenance, or the FD.

IF you can get the door open...go for it.

There is a very specific tool needed to open the outer door. Next time you are looking at an elevator check the top corner (opposite from the side that opens) and you will see a small round hole. There is a tool made specifically to fit in that hole, drop down, and trigger the lock mechanism.

Building maintenance normally has one.

If someone wants to complain about someone not being "authorized" to let them out, throw them back in and leave them about 30min and try again. Repeat as necessary


I thought I was caught in one a few weeks ago, door would not open when I got to floor I was going to. I waited about a minute and then I pushed real hard on the door and it opened.
