Getting rid of a Packrat

Last year, hunting in south Texas had some wires chewed on by packrats. So this year I placed rat traps around truck and camper. This stopped the damage. Lost about half the ones that got in the traps and had to look for a few traps yards away. About half the ones that got in the traps and had to look for a few traps yards away.

Unlike rats which if seen run and hide, this guy would sit on a window ledge staring at me and let me get 3-4 feet away before climbing down. It was amazing how it’s claws held it to a cedar board and batten exterior wall.
Like I said, our 2 barn cats would just look at it, probably thinking “No way, Jose, do you feed me enough to wrestle with that animal”.
It met it’s demise in a pond across from the base of a huge mining dredge still in the ground. There’s a RV campground on the fill put in above the dredge. The Conrey Mining Co had 4 massive dredges mining the area.
Our driveway has road base from the old tailings piles that were dumped behind the barges as they slowly moved, chewing up rocks 55-60 feet down until they reached bedrock. I find tiny flakes of gold in the fine dirt on a sunny day. Here’s 2 larger flakes.

Brought a trophy rat back from my old Oklahoma lease a few years back, courtesy of my Land Cruiser he had made his home. Problem was, I stored that LC at an airport during the offseason. Needless to say the airplane guys weren’t very impressed with the new tenant. Drove the LC to a car wash and blasted it until the big ******* ran away and I drove off!

we had a deer lease trailer. We would lose. plugs off the end of every. Lost point and flames, dish washing pads, all sorts of stuff. We could not figure out where he was. When we got rid of the trailer. The new owner. Found it living inside the old unused water holding tank. We told him that was the surprise that we left for him to love and cherish.
