I've got Danners and Meindl's. The Danners are a nice boot but no where near the same caliber of hiking boot as the Meindl's. The Meindl's are expensive and fairly heavy (Denalis) but they are a true mountain boot. Buy once cry once. By the way I have an almost new pair of pronghorns I'll sell cheap.

Danners were great back in the day. Danners, unless you can find the USA made ones, are now junk.

Cabelas sells Meindl which are German made. Simply amazing boots. Not cheap, but will last you forever. Give them a look.

I spent 4 hours in Cabelas one day walking around in Danners, Irish Setters and everything else until I found the Meindls. Then it was a no brainer.

If you happen to wear size 13 I'll give you a deal on Kenetrek Hardscramble Lights worn on 1 turkey hunt.

I bought Danner's before deer season an they are the best boot I've ever owned. Comfortable, warm, no hint of a leak, and fit great to my feet. Can't wait for elk season this year.

Hope you have better luck than we did. Out of 4 brand new pair of Danner Pronghorns at an ELK camp I was at last year...ALL FOUR FAILED. leaked. Ya never heard so much whining going on. I used to love Danners but they are not the same boot as they were 20 years ago.

I use Crispi boots now exclusively. You pay for what you get. If you hunt in the mountains they just dont get better.

I used Lowa sheep hunters the first time i went and they are very stiff but great for steep mountains. Used Danner pronghorns the second time and was equally happy with them. Break them in before you go

Another vote for Meindl. They have high ankle support and will make your time on uneven ground much easier than cheaper boots.

I own the Danner Pronghorn also and while they are a great boot for Texas, they dont even compare to the Meindl.

Some people just don't understand this. They make the Danner boot recommendation without having tried really good boots.

Most of the people recommending Meindl's or Lowa's have worn Danner's before and know there is a big difference.

I have Hanwag Alaskan's, Hanwag Mountain Lights and a pair of Asolo Fugitives. Of the three I'm most comfortable in the Mountain Lights, but they are all great boots.

I've worn these from 12-20 years old through the mountains of Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. I now wear them in Texas. Just make sure there's mink oil on them and I've never had a leak.

Danner boots are a mark of superior craftsmanship, Our hiking, hunting, work, military, and law enforcement boots are built with GORE-TEX waterproof liners, durable Vibram outsoles, and full-grain leather.

The Danner Pronghorn are junk in my opinion, and not suited for the mountains. Most folks I was around up north that was serious about getting out in the mountains wore Danner Canadians, Fort Lewis, or elk hunters. Tall all leather boots. I'd stay away from the boots with fabric on the side for serious cold, wet, and high country. I also love the soles. Living in Oregon going up the sides of mountains that were always wet the soles with the little rubber nubs clear out quick and get good traction in the deep mud.
