I used to use Danners...not anymore. They are not what they used to be. To me Danners are not a quality product any longer. The last two pairs failed me big time. I have found a company that makes the best boots I have ever seen. They are not cheap but who wants cheap at 12thousand feet on a mountain side. I just ordered the uninsulated version of this boot this week. I basically hunt Sept in Montana and Colorado. Here is the site. The first boot you see is the insulated version. If you are cold natured you might consider these. I am not and need an uninsulated boot. I preordered the Idaho...it will be ready in June. Amazing boot!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Cabelas Meindl perfekt 7 are awesome. Pretty stiff at first but excellent ankle support

I am like a lot of others. I used Danners before but now I have changed since then. They didn't hold up and leaked and really weren't comfortable. I would spend the money on a good boot like others have posted...Lowa, Kenetrek and so on. You won't be sorry.

Is breaking in a boot really required? I have never had to break-in a pair of lowas. Just put them on and go.

                Depends on your feet.
Some people never have problems, others will fight it and have blisters for the first 10 miles.

I had some Danners that gave me blisters the first 4 mile hike, while I was breaking them in, and they never did again. I was using thick merino ssocks as well.
I've had others that never gave me hot spots or blisters.

The Lowa renegades I used last year came out of the box at the trailhead since I was having some comfort issues mid season with my Meindl's. Everything was fine after that.

Good Advice... I'm just scared of buying boots on-line for correct fit reasons

Pronghorns, REI wool blend sport socks, and the sock liners.

September 15th it was snowing on me last year.

I've also had 80 degree temps in late October.

I would plan for snow and be ready to shed layers.
