What kind of duck is this?

Fairly unusual for me to get a duck at my feeder. Picture may not provide enough color for identification. I know little about different duck species. What do the duck experts say?

We call them Mexican whistlers down here, but Black Belly Whistler or Black Belly Tree Duck is likely more correct...I've seen flocks of them dive bomb the deer to run them off feeders.

Thanks. Exactly what I was thinking they might be. Haha. You were too quick for me. Lol. Had to edit and you had already replied.

Thanks guys. Are these at all unusual for north Texas? Can’t say as I recall seeing them before, but I never hunt duck, so don’t pay much attention to them.

They are steadily increasing their range north. Used to be a south tx thing. Now common lots of places. They actually go to mexico and south in the winter. Summer up this way. Cool ducks & eat good.

They have moved into town & see them in the drainage canal all the time along the hike/bike trail...you camera doesn't show it, but their bills & feet are a vibrant bright orange.

Yep! Lots of them near me in Votaw, and surrounding areas. They love to visit my pond and occasionally my deer feeder. I see large amount of them near the Trinity river in Romayor

They hang out in my trees in Brushy Creek in Round Rock now and then

They are over taking our neighborhood. And they don't migrate.

Whistler. About 6-8 of them live on my neighbors roof. Why, IDK but they've been there for a few years it seems.

Had a bunch in the trees outside our office this morning.
