The Twilight Tattoo at Ft Myer is well worth attending if you are interested in History through the eyes
    of the American Soldier.

Whether you enjoy museums or not, the Holocaust Museum is one of the most moving—and inspirational—experiences you’ll encounter. Anywhere.

I built a few projects there and spent a decent amount of time in the area. All of the historical “must do’ s” are well worth it but one of my favorite things to do was rent a paddle board and view them from the Potomac. You can rent a paddle boards or kayaks and I thought it was very cool to see some them from a different perspective.
As mentioned there are several cool parks and my memory is Great Falls was only 45 minutes away but it had some spectacular views of the falls. I thought Washington Cathedral was really cool and I was told the zoo was worth checking out but as dude by himself I never went.
I never understand the “don’t go” comments, I think it’s a very cool city worth checking out. It can be a humid SOB in the summer especially in those parks or wooded areas so check the weather.

If your close, maybe you can go see sleepy Joe in his basement, if he is still alive.

Not our usual vacation as I'm not into large crowds and citites but I had always wanted to go. We went about 6 years ago and stayed 5 nights. Lots of stuff to see. Most has alerady been mentioned. One thing I would suggest that we did was the segway tour. My daughter wanted to do it. I thought it sounded stupid until we did it. It was acutally the first thing we did. It was helpful because we kind of got ot know where everything was without doing tons of walking. The segways were really easy to use after about 5 minutes of trial and error. They were pretty fun to ride. We stopped by the oldest bar in DC. Old Ebbit Grill. It was pretty cool if your into that sort of thing. The patio cafes around the national mall were pretty cool as well since the world cup was going on and people from all over the world were there watching. I'm not into soccer, but it was cool to see and hear every one watching the game. Might catch a Nationals game if they are in town as well. The MLB all star game was in town the same time we were there. We tried to sneak in and actually got by the first 2 security check points before being turned away. Its a pretty neat ballpark. All the memorials were cool to see after dark as well. Much different perspective. The coolest thing to me was the tomb of the unknown soldier. Not far to the Gettysburg battle field if you can get a rental car.

We're going, Father in law planning it this summer.....we are all big into history. He and my wife have been before. We will also go to Gettysburg, then mainly museums and "normal" sites in DC.

Arlington National and the Tomb of the Unknowns was by far the best part to me. Really enjoyed the Smithsonian, and the larger monuments, as well. It seems like their was an FBI museum I liked, but that was forever ago, it may have been part of the Smithsonian.

I thought the food sucked, but we didn't go to any overly nice places. I would like to run over to that waterfront area near Baltimore to check out some of those seafood joints. I'm a sucker for fresh seafood though.

My wife and I are museum nerds and history buffs so to say we liked it all is understated.

I would love to go July 4th 2026 for the 250th Birthday party. Arlington is the top on my list.
