Search around FB or something for someone who builds rods as a side hobby. The last two rods I have bought were customs from a guy I met through another buddy. Hes made a total of 4 rods for my family. The last rod he built me was on a cashion carbon rod blank. Colors, grips, hook keeper, length lines, intials etc to my specs and did it for WAYYYYY less than any other carbon rod on the market. If youre around the tomball/montgomery area I can put you in contact with him. Or Im sure he will ship one to you.

The mark up on rods is dumb. Some of those Sarge rods that sell for near 500 bucks are built on sub 100 dollar blanks.

I absolutely love the 7' Salinity. Favorite rid of all time.

If I was in that price range, I’d just get the Phantom. Very similar rod actions and lengths.

If you have the time, check out building your own. I’ve built 6 so far, watched a few YouTube vids and got after it. It’s really not that difficult and fun catching fish on a rod you built. Right now NFC is having a sale on their X-Ray blanks for $60. The blanks they have designated for inshore fishing are better than probably any $500 rod out there. I’ve built a few using titanium recoil guides, top of the line seats and grips and are in around $250.

Cheapest X-Ray I'm seeing is $125. Am I missing it?

Man I gotta catch up on chores and fish more. Been going a few times a week. Been catching trout just no big fish. Was doing great until the cold fronts. Now everywhere I go is smaller trout. Plenty to throw on ice just no picture fish. I suck at this fishing but love trying

This cold weather is killing me! 😬 Wanting to get out this weekend, but going to pass.

Fished last Saturday with a few guys from work for a United Way event. The morning started off slow with no wind, extremely foggy and cooler than expected water temps. Started picking up a few trout about an hour after daylight and had 10 on the stringer for them around 10. The wind really started howling, so we tucked behind a bit of cover at spot number two where our first handful of fish were 22-24ā€. Landed several more trout and rounded out our limits with a bonus redfish. By the time we left there around noon the wind was ripping and had blown out every spot I would’ve tried or made them inaccessible. No bigger fish, but those guys had a great time and went home with a good pile of fish to eat.

Now we just need it to warm up a bit!

Fish should be easy to find with the cold, they'll all be piled into one or two spots lol.

I'm with you though, maybe I'm getting old or something but I'm not feeling terribly excited to be out in the cold. I'm kinda done with it at least until summer roasts me back into shape. Passed on last weekend and passing on this weekend again even though I'm bored out of my mind at home. I guess it's good I'm not spending my tax money on fuel and beer though.

I fished Monday evening with the wife, hoping the incoming front would have the fish hungry.

They might have been, but dang sure weren't where we were at. We got skunked. Had good water, tons of bait, tide movement, and structure.

Wife and I both got to try out our new rods and reels. She got a backlash from hell after about 30 min of fishing. It sounded like it exploded. I tried getting it out, but it was the grand daddy of all backlashes. I started cutting some line out, and still didn’t make progress. Should have taken a pic of it for entertainment purposes.
