maybe 10 acres with really foood deer, and he is not shooting towards a house. Road is 100 yards, and nearest house in his direction few hundred yards he is shooting.

he figured he was up high enough and basically shooting into the ground that he would be OK. I told him he would need to consult with the attorney lol

I think I got them convinced to do this.

I'm 6 for 6 with 300BO, subs and suppressed. Two were heart shots. 30 yards and dead. 4 were in the ear hole and dropped like a rock. Headed out in a few minutes to do this very thing.

Hunting tree stands and shooting under 40 yards.

Killing them on 30 acre place, 6 acre place and another 6 acre place.

I was asking about houses nearby because I've had people shoot a couple hundred yards from my house and if you're outside it will make you duck. I make sure I find a random time to return the favor.

Slugs ok, buckshot is messy. That close you are gonna put nine pellets in that deer. Nine more chances to ruin meat. Buckshot is for varmints.

Not trying to be an arse but he shouldnt be shooting toward the road anyway for sure if its that close. If the property is that small hunt with your back to the road. Dont count on some kinda bullet that suddenly becomes harmless after blowing through the target animal.

My experience with 243 is then tend to punch holes, especially and very short distances. This was shooting soft point bullets. Maybe a ballistic tip or HP at that range? I wijld still worry about poke thru though if there was another option.

Update as of 5 mins ago. 7 for 7.
From elevated stand, it's a no brainer.

I did have a buddy that used 300 BO 123 gr and head shot every one with a suppressor and it worked really well.

I think he’d be fine with the 243. At 30 yards a shotgun with a slug or buckshot would be deadly and wouldn’t go very far. He could even use a 20 gauge and fine

I’d just shoot a 30-30 and call it a day.
