What do you think about tipping on a tablet where the waiter never sees what you gave them? The tip is supposed to be an appreciation for the hard work they did. If they don't see your individual tip, they will never learn cause and effect.
I’m betting they see it, if not immediately after finalizing your credit card then, at the very least, when EOD reports are run.
Always check the bill. I catch stuff all the time, sometimes in my favor like went I have 13 beers, and they charge me for 11, Most of the time when I tell them that they say don't worry about it.
My first real gig was working / waiting tables at a small bbq joint & was the funnest job, albeit kinda short at only a year or so...ya ordered your own food, handed you your drink & we brought the grub out to you. Didn't expect it / really appreciated it & got tips on a little under 50% of the tables I guess.
Never thought much about it & if ya stink you still get 10% cuz I simply don't walk in your shoes & 20 plus all depending...not tipping on a good waitering is pretty dang cs. Like driving off on your mechanic cuz the keys were left in the car.
I do two things, each when appropriate: 1. I tip very well when I have good service. 2. I immediately address it when I have poor service. How they respond to #2 depends on their tip. I don't think I'm out of line to say, "I know you're busy, but I expect better service when I come in here. I'm a great tipper for great service and right now I'm not getting great service." Almost always ends with an apology, rectifying the situation and ultimately a good tip for the server. A few times it's resulted in a poor attitude from the server in which I just request another server. I ain't paying for expensive food and a bad attitude.
