What do you think about tipping on a tablet where the waiter never sees what you gave them? The tip is supposed to be an appreciation for the hard work they did. If they don't see your individual tip, they will never learn cause and effect.

A very good practice for sure and yes they do make mistakes on occasion.
I think k that is more likely in a dive or bar and grill setting in which I don’t partake . I used to itemize every check out bill but when I looked back over time there just weren’t that many mistakes . They lay the bill down and I pay it.

So you leave $51.30 or $51.96 LOL
So my question is does anyone really not just round either of those two to $52?
Also - I hate tipping percentage. Why does the waiter at a place where your bill is $200 deserve $40 but the waiter at a place that costs $20 only deserve $4? Assuming they're both working just as hard etc.
Just saw TVC post #47... Exactly!
Where are you guys eating that you actually get good to great service? Larger towns with meal for two over $100 or so? Seems like most service sucks these days but we don't eat out a lot either so....Last edited by RiverRat1; 09-26-2024, 12:10 PM.

There is a huge disconnect with not only him but in my opinion the whole industry when that is the narrative. Even at hole in the wall places the food prices are high enough to where a typical tip is around $10 per table or many times more if there is a large group or alcohol is involved. If they serve 3 tables an hour at that rate, that is $30 an hour or the equivalent of what my wife makes as a teacher. I hear everyone talking about low income servers but an hourly rate that leads to a $60k per year income is not low income. It isn't rich but it isn't low income!
And I'm not against tipping but 15% was standard and more than acceptable before. Now it has to be 20-25% or your a cheap *** but again the reality is their raise shouldn't come from an increased percentage as a tip it already came from increased food prices.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT...........you'll go into a restaurant, order food and then ask for a veteran discount and still not tip?
