I’m near University Hospital, but will travel for good grub!
You're close to "The Thai Restaurant" which is a little hole in the wall place, but it's gud.

I have also heard from numerous people that Thai Dee off Blanco is the best Thai in SA.

For an old time dinner that is old try De Weses's Tip Top. I believe it's pre WWII. I get a burger and split an order of onion rings.
Casa Rio is another place that's been around awhile and has a good view of the river.

You need to get that old time chicken fried steak with the gravy underneath... so dang good. Those onion rings are top notch as well.

Magnolia pancake haus or Garcias for breakfast. Pollos Asides is solid. There are incredible taquerias everywhere. I like the Taqueria Rodeo de Jalisco near 410 and Fredericksburg Rd, but Nichas on Roosevelt is probably my favorite. The Loop 410 Nichas location is not as good.

Blanco Cafe for Tex Mex. Burnt Bean is great BBQ but is in Seguin.

I travel to SA quite often. I have yet to find a great place to eat. I will admit I am not a TexMex fan but I haven't found any other place I like there much either. Big Red Barn is what it sounds like. Trough full of heifers with mediocre over priced over rated steak.

If you don't mind traveling to Seguin for Burnt Bean as stated above. It's worth the trip to get some of the best BBQ in the state even though it's fairly new.Try the Big Red dessert. If you luck out you might see Ernie on cash register.

BBQ station off 410 is probably the best BBQ I have ever had. Definity a sleeper spot for great BBQ. get their jalapeno Mac and Cheese.

We went to a little dive called the Drop Zone near the army base on the north side a couple weeks ago and each ordered the burrito. One of them could have fed a family of 4 and it was amazing. I only ate about half of mine and still nearly went into a food coma.

I travel very frequently throughout Texas and other states for business and have been there over a dozen times over the past 5 years. I never go to the same places and I always research for great places to eat whereever I travel. I have great picks just about everywhere else lol. SA has been my nemesis on that front ha.

In my humble overweight fat guy opinion these are my favorite places.
Tito’s Mexican restaurant is the best Mexican hands down.
As mentioned, Pollo Asado del Norteno (on Rigsby) is insanely good. Best grilled/smoked Mexican chicken and pretty cheap for how much you get.
Chatman’s for good fired chicken and soul-food sides
                                Steaks, many good choices.
bbq- doesn’t exist in San Antonio
Magnolia Pancake Haus or Jim’s has great breakfast.
