    Good bucks you’re after, Clark
    what county you in?
that bull six point looks identical to one on my place that I’ll take out after Christmas.

Just got back home from few days hunting. Bucks were still harassing the girls but no big chases.

We have had our new place for almost exactly a year, well hunting wise its been since May of 23, pretty disappointed so far, fed over 40,000 lbs of protein and not much to show for it, we do have a lot of deer just not anything that we would care to shoot from a trophy standpoint.
      Collingsworth County, Samnorwood.
Pen is in a large drainage, that bluff behind the feeders is the bank. There’s a nice creek about 200 yards behind the game cam.

Do you have any data from previous owners bucks, body weights?

Not a whole lot of data from the previous hunters except they told me I have an awesome place, lots of deer etc, the bodies of the deer are big, I am probably expecting too much too early, those guys hunted the place for 20 plus seasons, they most likely filled their tags their last season which I do not blame them, they paid their money. We are in Childress County just 4 miles north of town.

I use to hunt a place in Dickens County. It wasn't serious hunted prior to us getting it. The first year the biggest deer we saw/had on camera was maybe 130". After 3 years of letting deer get old and feeding protein 150"+ deer started getting seen/killed. Just might take some time but I get it 40,000 lbs of protein isn't cheap without a quick return.

One thing I've noticed about up there so far is you need mother nature's protein alot more than what we can provide. You get good rains constantly in the times you got some good horns it's dry it really don't matter how much you feed.

Very true but you get out of something what you put into it. On another ranch in Motley County we fed lots of protein and managed it well. We killed WAY bigger deer than the average in that area. It takes years to build up a herd.

Oh yes sir the protein doesn't hurt one bit and will only help. Just saying it's not a miracle worker you got to have the right/wet year as well. We've seen it on our place up there dry year we fed them TONS of feed and the horns were still below average wet years when they barely seem to hit the feed horns are awesome. We rain at some decent times at our place this year but had a dry spring then got some good rain during the summer months. What sucked is all the rain during bow season mixed in with the warm weather they could care less about the corn right now having plenty to eat.

Great to see you, Clark, and great pics as always. I've been impressed with your herd every year, and definitely looks like you have some great genetics too. Best of luck to you and the boys, sir!

Dream season for us in the panhandle. We’ve hunted just about everywhere on public land and drawn huts with TPWD and TYHP and lease hunts. Click image for larger version
