Kry,
rut still on in hall county?
I will be out all next week (first week of December) hoping for catching white tail rut end, but also last full week of muley season.
my last trip out (Veterans Day week) the wt rut seemed a week later than usual and only little guys were smelling and harassing the girls. Big guys we’re not interested and nowhere to be found
The struggle is real. Panhandle is hard on old hunting equipment that's for sure.
Camp feeder is my oldest gear, which got slow-danced by pigs until a leg bracket failed, it fell and broke.
Replaced by a cobbled together scrap pile feeder, which suffered the same fate from some crazy weather event this summer.
I patched it back together and stood it back up. Just look at it.
Brought my oldest son up for opener of the general season to put him on a buck.
Took my old camp feeder home and fixed the leg, my boys painted it and got it up and running.
Neighbor planted peanuts this year, major increase in animal traffic.
Hope it was profitable for him and that continues next year.
Opening weekend had a significant rain event, making the county roads a problem.
But my trigger man was dialed.
Our last hunt Sunday morning was great.
Target buck came in. A great 9 point.
He was getting pushed around and ran off by this bully of a 6 point.
Target buck tried to come back a couple times, but getting run off soon as hopped in the pen.
My boy rushed the shot and missed earning his target buck the name: The Lucky 9.
To be continued..
The whole family came back for Thanksgiving.
Tuesday morning was our only chance to hunt.
24° with a big frost, clear and still...perfect.
We sat on a bluff overlooking the pen.
For the first time ever, took all 3 boys (at the same time) to hunt.
They were neither quiet nor still and I couldn't have been prouder.
No target bucks came in.
But we all agreed to make time to hunt together every year going forward.
Guess it's time for this old bowhunter to build a proper rifle blind to accommodate us.
I insisted they participate in the work of filling feeders.
Here's my help.
What is that at the top of some of your photos, a bluff ? Where about are you hunting, looks like a really good place. We have had our new place for almost exactly a year, well hunting wise its been since May of 23, pretty disappointed so far, fed over 40,000 lbs of protein and not much to show for it, we do have a lot of deer just not anything that we would care to shoot from a trophy standpoint.
