Hadn't hunted since the opener due to the lack of ducks where I hunt but the little cold front that blew through around New Years changed that. Woke up January 1st and headed out to hunt a stock tank that had recently started holding some birds. A lot of birds showed up and left before shooting light but we were able to scratch out a two man limit with some quality birds and a couple bonus geese. If we wanted a strap full of ringnecks we probably could've limited out in about 5 minutes lol. First and only hunt of the year previously I shot my first Wood Duck drake on a public lake, second hunt of the year went back to my normal private stock tanks and my buddy and myself shot our first Canvasback drakes which neither of us have ever really seen in the area before!
Headed back out last Sunday morning to get a quick hunt in before church. Was on the road around 5am and my truck said it was 66 degrees out, about 5:20 I gripped the steering wheel as a strong gust of wind blasted the truck and it was like someone kicked the AC on full blast. I watched the temperature drop about 20 degrees in less than 10 minutes. Got started setting up at the tank we were planning on hunting and was surprised we were able to get the panel blind to stay with us the way the winds were howling. Shooting proved difficult with the wind blowing our shots off, but once we figured it out we ended up with one of the coolest groups of ducks I've gotten on a hunt. 10 ducks, 5 species, and all drakes. Including 3 Stud mallards and 3 more canvasbacks!! Headed home the temperature in my truck read 32 degrees but it felt a heckuva lot colder with the wind. The quantity of hunts this season has been very low but the quality has been incredible! Hoping for all of us to have a strong finish to the season!
Were are u hunting?
You are about the only one I know who got any birds from the front. Most of us lost birds or didn't see a difference.

I drive 287 from Decatur to Wichita Falls multiple times a week and have seen new birds show up since the cold front on tanks from about Bowie to Iowa Park. Hoping this current weather pushes some more down if it wasn't for work and family obligations I'd be out there hunting for sure!

Hundreds, if not thousands, of new birds showed up the last couple days here at the Chambers property. Only issue is they look to be 99% pintails lol
We will be giving it a whirl Saturday but it might be 6 guys shooting 6 pintails and watching the other 1000 that come in fly around. Better than sleeping in though.

We had a pretty good couple of mornings on the coast this weekend. Picked out and killed our redheads very easily. We killed a mottled duck and a pintail Saturday morning as our odd birds. This morning we killed our redheads again and 3 shoveler hens that came in on a rope. Passed up some sky blast opportunities on pintails we might have winged, but decided to just watch them instead. Winter tides are sure in effect, broke the skeg off my motor at the boat ramp.
