Saturday Went with my brother, cousin and a couple buddies I’ve grown up hunting ducks with on one of the buddies places outside Hankamer. Ended the morning and my season with 10 mallards, 15 wood ducks, 2 mottleds and a couple teal. Ended up getting my 9th band with one of the mottled ducks. Banded in Grand Chenier in Cameron Parish Louisiana in 2022.

Didn’t make it out many times but did make the last day. Might be the last hunt for my old girl Betty she turns 12 next week.

Thursday first mallards 8:15 and 9:30.....of course had ring necks before that. By far the worst season I've had in a long time, killed more birds in first week or so than all season but haven't even bothered hunting till 3 weeks ago. South of Lake Texoma, normally get lots of birds from Hagerman and Ray Roberts and can hear some shooting normally at Ray Roberts and haven't heard a shot till a couple this morning.....very few birds on water anywhere around us all season with it being so warm everywhere. Even buddies in NW Oklahoma had worst season probably in their lives, they are half my age, I didn't even bother going up. Nephew helps with veterans hunts for Therapeutic Recreation Group in Arkansas and they crushed them but they have flooded rice fields and nice pit blinds, 12 of them........last pic was 18 man limits.......
It’s been slowly getting worse year by year since the mid 90’s. More people that move in, the less habitat and more pressure there is. We’ve got a lease on the Collin Grayson border and our harvest numbers were down 20% this year.

Glad to see so many people make it out this past weekend!

3 of us went out to Chambers on Sunday and shot 4 birds. Pretty much inline with our season there since thanksgiving.

Saw probably 3000-4000 pintail migrating down so looks like their alarm finally went off to head this way.

We will be imprint feeding like crazy the next couple of weeks to see how that goes.

Now onto snipe hunting the next few weeks!

Our problem was just no ducks pushed down by weather. No changes in NW Oklahoma other than weather up north and it was their worst season in recent memory, even the snows showed up way late.......I hunt and have friends and outfitters all around the Salt Plains NWR and they had horrible season and had to cancel many, or most, hunts, it's season's like this that weed out the "outfitters" which doesn't bother me. You're lucky down 20% we didn't kill 10% of what we did last year and we hunt at my house and I can see the pond, and others, and there just weren't any birds on any water around that would normally hold birds. Only geese we had were resident greaters. I'm not far from Hagerman NWR and get birds from both there and Ray Roberts. Very rare we don't limit out and only did 1 of only 4 hunts this year and normally hunt twice a week. If your lease is west of Gunter there is lots of big water there that I've seen thousands of snows in years past. Opening day last year we killed 4 man limit and 8 greaters and this year I never hunted until a little over 2 weeks ago when the weather got really cold all over the country, wasn't worth getting up and dragging decoys down with no birds. Kept eye on Salt Plains NWR bird counts and it was horrible all season except for cranes which always show up in October even though I didn't need the counts I have friends there telling me how bad it was.

We got our Two man woody limit the final morning. It was a grind, but finally finished off around 9am. Got a little jewelry to go along with it, Banded in Missouri in 2022. Last season we had 2 bands and finally got our first of the year on the second to last bird of the year.

We had birds on just about every tank I scouted in Clay and Wichita Counties but they were real spread out. 2 here, 5 there type of deal. They weren't concentrated heavily on any tanks to finish out the season with a bang. Still ended up a small mixed bag on Saturday and Sunday mornings, if you could shoot more pintails I would've shot a lot more shells Saturday we had the pintails piling in like crazy.

Ready for next season, hopefully it's colder!

Congrats FBR, gander, and droebuck! Way to close out strong

We set up on some mottleds or Mexican mallards yesterday and went trophy duck hunting . Suckers were jicky though. Two times we were going to shoot them on the next pass, and two times they didn't have a next pass. Never even picked up the gun.

Tough season. Hopefully next year is better.
