There are lots of urban legends about stuff like this. There is zero chance the wrong color of a truck would result in the ticket being dismissed. Have him petition the court to do defensive driving and the ticket will be dismissed, assuming he's eligible for DD. Nothing on your record and you can send the certificate of completion of DD to your insurance company to see if hey would give you a couple bucks discount. I got one coming back from the coast last summer, did DD and jumped through all of the hoops (yes it was a pain in the A) but it stayed off my record and went away.
PS - I would highly discourage you from "pay the ticket and move on". I'm assuming your kid is a younger driver so you know how crazy auto premiums are. I would do whatever it took to keep it off his record to prevent a premium increase. Believe me, I have 20/22yr old drivers so I know first hand how crazy premiums are.Last edited by rockyraider; 08-12-2024, 01:13 PM.

Very wise advice. I have been agent 34 years. Make him take the safety course. A speeding ticket in today’s world will cost you an arm/leg over the next 5 years.

While we're at it maybe we can see if the officer is color blind and dyslexic as well. I dont really see how any of that has anything to do with a vehicle driving X in an X on a public roadway and that he signed the citation on the given date

I just had a semi hefty one dismissed by doing deferred adjudication. Had to go 3 months without getting a moving violation in the state of Texas. The cost was about the same as just paying the ticket, BUT it kept it off my record.
Good family friend is a LEO and said asking for deferred is always the best bet. If they approve it, it keeps defensive driving as an option for a subsequent offense that might happen say a year later. Your son pays the associated costs and better be good for the probationary period and it goes away. Best case scenario.
