      Made the swap recently.

hands down better than the new taco

my son has a 2016 taco we bought in 2018.

great truck and i like that it is more plain jane.

I would seriously second think anything I had to mod or reprogram due to out of the box performance issues.

Mine climbs and 4x4’s most of the time and without a reprogram…forget about it !

And pulling a trailer sucks !

My understanding is the third gens are this way to avoid auto stop. I’m running 255/75-17 which is 32” tires, unlifted suspension.

There are some pluses after you get it programmed, it feels more normal. I generally run tires 26lbs cold, and its the best ride over my God aweful rough terrain of any truck or jeep I’ve EVER driven in. I’m also running a different shock/strut.

The only reason I got this thing is because all my American trucks take a dump at about 130K miles and I’ve fought out of toyotas around the earth.

I am currently searching for an older model Tundra to replace it with though.

My wife bought a new TRD Sport in 2018. I've maybe put a thousand miles on it. Compared to my prior Tacos and FJ Cruiser, it is pretty lame. She loves it and claims that I just need to learn to put my foot into it when I want it to get up and go. All that I'm saying is that I didn't have to do that on the earlier models with the bigger 6 cylinder engines. It does get good gas mileage, so that is a plus.

So if you buy a Tacoma, plan on spending $400 for programming to make it the truck its supposed to be. If you drive hills like I do you will be wanting to set it on fire if you don’t!
Please explain this programming thing more because when I tow my boat I want to set my truck on fire LOL.. My old Tacoma drove much better.
How does it work? Where do you have it done etc. What's it called (I googled and saw nothing)?

I recently put about 2800 miles on a brand new Tacoma with the turbocharged I-4, and it ran FAR better than the 2016 V-6 4Runner we just sold. It was a 2wd truck with factory tires though, and the 4Runner had a small lift and 285 tires on it. It was always gutless though.

Im giving some thought to buying a 4wd long bed so I can park my Duramax until I need it for towing.

I was looking into buying a late model used tacoma recently but I couldnt wrap my mind around the amount of money they want for trucks that have 150k plus miles.

Every trip home from Rayburn I see those Mexican vehicle trains towing them south on 59 . I guess they get to Mexico and make a good one out of a few bad ones. Hell, they are evening towing buses and semi's now.

Son has a 2006 I bought in 2012 with 28k on it. It's been a good truck. Think he's got about 130 on it now. Towing a ranger isn't fun but the john boat or his skiff isn't a problem.

Bought a 2019 4runner last year and just as happy
