Since your dealer filed it, it won't show up until it's approved.

OP. The dealer wasn't wrong in telling you that they were coming back in a few days, but it also isn't the full story. The ones coming back that quickly were filed as individuals, and still not all of them were approved that fast. You could still be waiting a while as an individual. If you filed as a Trust it's going to take longer. From my understanding, they are working on a system to get Trusts approved quickly as well.

Bottom line, it's a government agency with no incentive to be consistent or efficient. Getting it quickly or not is a crap shoot.

You can transfer them to an existing Trust, but I believe it costs another tax stamp. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

It’s funny, the first thing I read when I got up was a meateater article about how the waiting times have improved, and then I get on here and this thread was at the top

Ear protection should not be a government controlled expensive/slow permit.
Thank goodness I have mine and don’t have to go thru this BS again.
I was under the impression the whole permitting process was going to be scrapped.

Its a sit back and wait game, no rhyme or reason. I waited 5 months for two different suppressors (both individual trusts), this was before the ATF expedited their process times.

I’m going to take a guess based on the approval times I’ve experienced and read about based off how you filed.

You filed them under a trust?

correct, i didn't file it under a trust

If you DID NOT file as a trust, then I’d say yeah that is weird that it’s taking so long. Back in April I got mine in 6 days. But it is luck of the draw usually. If you filed as a trust, they do take longer on average. If you didn’t use a silencer shop single shot or something similar that the ATF has seen THOUSANDS of and know exactly how it’s set up, that can add to the wait times too.

I bought one at the hunting show last August or so and have not seen it yet! My cousin bought one the same day and got his 2-3 months ago. Random at best

Its funny reading a rant thread for a 9 week wait for a suppressor.

Not sure it started as a rant, more as a question.

My comment was/is a rant! Stupid govt paperwork mess.
And an idiotic requirement for shooters to protect their hearing.

I would buy another tomorrow without the permit cost, paperwork and wait.

For real lol. Most all of ours (20+) were 9 MONTHS or longer. Some quite a bit longer than that.

Ok, I have some on a trust. I thought any extras had to as well???

With NFA items on a trust I can go individually and get it faster? Why would I want to add it to the already active trust? A possession thing or what?

Even though you have a trust you can still buy as an individual on future purchases. Supposedly individual purchases are coming back lots faster. Sometimes in days.

A trust makes it easier upon your demise. It also allows others on the trust to possess the nfa items. You can will nfa items to someone tax free. They still have to go through the approval process. I don’t know what happens if they get denied.

i have a trust but also have nfa items as an individual. Back in the day people who lived in most big cities couldn’t get a chief law enforcement officer to sign for them. They went to a trust to bypass the signature requirement. The sheriff in my county didn’t have a problem signing for my stuff including machine guns. So back then I bought as an individual. I’d like to transfer everything to my trust but don’t want to cough up a couple of thousand dollars in taxes to do it. Transferring to a trust is treated like a sale and gets taxed again.
