A trust makes it easier upon your demise. It also allows others on the trust to possess the nfa items. You can will nfa items to someone tax free. They still have to go through the approval process. I don’t know what happens if they get denied.

i have a trust but also have nfa items as an individual. Back in the day people who lived in most big cities couldn’t get a chief law enforcement officer to sign for them. They went to a trust to bypass the signature requirement. The sheriff in my county didn’t have a problem signing for my stuff including machine guns. So back then I bought as an individual. I’d like to transfer everything to my trust but don’t want to cough up a couple of thousand dollars in taxes to do it. Transferring to a trust is treated like a sale and gets taxed again.
    Gotcha and thanks.

I'll probably see the sheriff tomorrow at lunch but I still wouldn't ask him

Beginning of April I had an individual(all of mine are filed individual) approved in 6 days. My previous cans were 5 month and 9 month wait times.

From what I’ve read if you use a trust, it’s going to take longer. If you use a Silencer Shop single shot trust, or I’d assume Capitol Armory’s trust, they(silencer shop) have worked with the ATF to fine tune them and the ATF knows exactly what they say. So those apparently are going pretty quick too, but not quite as fast as an individual filing. If you used some other form of a trust, I know some people have posted about a specific attorney that does them, who knows how long it might take.

LOL! Thirty or so years ago when I started the NFA game it was either get the chief law enforcement officer of your county to sign or buy through a trust or corporation. So if you were on the board of a corporation that gave you permission to possess an NFA item you could legally do so. The government didn't like people doing that when they hadn't gone through a background check. Same with a trust. One person could do a trust back then and later add whomever they wanted to the trust. That's when they eventually changed to the current system where everybody named has to go through the background check.

Submitted paperwork last day of January and got my suppressor a couple of days ago. I did contact ATF, spoke with an employee and was told "it's in process," and she knew nothing else.

"I guess you are throwing darts" Not a rant, was a question regarding the posted short turnaround times of 4-5 days.

I have an integral build in the works that I’ll start the paperwork on in a few weeks. I was thinking about going individual this time for a faster turn and then maybe the hearing protection act gets passed with a Trump signature eventually. Then it shouldn’t matter, as to disposition at some later date, right?
