Yep. I was in boot camp when Saddam invaded and our DIs told us we'd all be going and half of us would be dead in a year. So straight over to join up with my unit who had already deployed after SOI and LAV school. I was an LAV driver with 1st LAI (Tip of the Spear). Crossed the berm and headed to Kuwait airport to secure it. Id have to scan pics, but i dont have any cool ones. They were all taken after everything was over and we were staying in oil field camp waiting to load stuff up to go back home

No fond memories of Camp Hansen! At one point while I was there we had “Cinderella Liberty “. Everybody had to be in there cubicles by 2400 due to racial strife in Kinville. The blacks were fighting with the honchos, whites, Mexican fighting with blacks, whites fighting Puerto Ricans. It was a mess.
I had only been there a few months when I was part of a 20 man team that was selected to go to South Vietnam to provide additional security. Crazy times then but nothing like now.

Thank all of you for your service! I was never in the service, but spent my career in the Defense Industry. I was a machinist making parts for the "tools" our warfighters used to do their job.
