He will miss games, he will strikeout, he will have some success. But in the end, when you think about it , nobody but nobody is worth that type of money to play Baseball. His net worth is higher than some owners !! I am just disappointed in the direction that professional sports is taking. I do not give a rat's *** that the Astros don't have him, nor the Rangers. I don't give a rat's *** about any of them. Hell, they don't know me or care about me. But the lack of discipline to pay somebody that amount is insane. And he can't pitch for another year. And they don't have enough starting pitching to be real threats to win a World Series makes this baffling. He might pitch halfway in 2025. And will not be fulltime pitcher until 2026. Pulling for everybody except the Dodgers.
I don't disagree with you, but we don't know what he's going to do with the money either. He may give millions to charity (he probably does, for tax reasons).

My biggest problem with it is that it sounds too much like a government contract to me. Commit now, figure out how to pay for it later. But, that's not my problem!

The deferral thing is pretty strange. I have heard the term checkbook baseball; I think this is credit card baseball. It does not seem like a good deal for him, I heard that the present value of the contract is actually 486 million. I guess he has other sources of income so it really doesn't matter. I think it is more about getting the highest contact ever than it is about the money. Plus he wants to win, and not handicap the team with a high salary.

The $680 million deferral makes it interesting. They'll be able to go out and sign other players as well, but they may be wishing they didn't make that deal when it's time to start paying him the real money. Insane people can make that much money playing a game. Good for him and his family though!
